General Description

This is a nursing role with programmatic responsibility for Employee Health and Infection Prevention.

Essential Job Duties

Employee Health:

  • Oversees all phases of the employee health program.
  • Implements program goals and policies that have been established by the organization.
  • Responsible for the quality assurance program of the employee health service.
  • Is an active participant in the hospital safety and infection control committees and must interface with the personnel responsible for those committees.
  • Works closely with HR in developing a wellness program for the employees of the organization. Assists in coordinating the activities of such programs.
  • Coordinates the daily activities of the employee health program to allow for routine physical assessments, assessments of acutely ill employees, consultation for Workers Compensation injuries, epidemiological follow-ups. routine screenings, employee education, and wellness related activities.
  • Responsible for preemployment assessments and documenting findings in a systematic manner on a medical record.
  • Shall maintain the privacy of the employee/patient and the confidentiality of the medical record.
  • Responsible for the coordination, administration, and data tracking of immunizations as recommended per WCH policies, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Infection Control Committee.
  • Provides expertise and counsel to outside organizational partnerships such as NextCare, Workers Compensation insurance carrier, government agencies (E.g., OSHA), and any other relevant areas.
  • Facilitates employees return-to-work and provides counsel on alternative work options when necessary.
  • Is a key member of the Safety Committee and the Infection Control Committee.
  • Reviews and revises policies and procedures on at least an annual basis.

Infection Prevention:

  • Coordinates the hospitals Infection Control in compliance with the established policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Collaborates with the Departmental Directors including the lab in policies, processes relating to infection control.
  • Infection Control RN is responsible for oversight and guidance regarding clinical culture results and follow up.
  • Provides surveillance and education relative to the prevention, detection, identification, and control of infectious/communicable diseases within the hospital.
  • Performs assessment, reassessment, development, and implementation of the Infection Control Plan in accordance with regulatory agencies and all federal and state requirements.
  • Assesses patients for risk of transmission or exposure to infections and implements appropriate safety precautions and follow up procedures.
  • Utilizes and integrates all available pertinent data in developing Infection Control Plan that meets the needs of all customers.
  • Infection Control RN collaborates with the Pharmacist in Antibiotic Stewardship and AUR; reporting information as indicated.
  • Interprets data to determine when patients or employees are at acute risk for infection and takes appropriate measures including notifying physician and/or Department Director.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the specific conditions, diseases, and treatment therapies for the specific patient/health care worker population of the organization.
  • Participates in patient rounding to improve patient outcomes and positively affect overall patient experience.
  • Conducts surveillance, reporting, data analysis and identifies healthcare associated infections using NHSN criteria, CDC guidelines. Complies with CMS, notifiable diseases, and organizational reporting requirements.
  • Environment of Care Program Chair who coordinates and manages regulatory functions specific to the environment of care management plans, survey process, leads EOC meeting process and follow up with Department Directors.
  • EOC chair manages the EOC committee providing agendas, scheduling, coordinating meetings, maintaining minutes, and developing packets, and providing relevant data.
  • The EOC chair collaborates with other EOC team members, department leads to ensure accuracy of plans, coordinates activities/rounding, identifies and effectively communicates opportunities of improvement, and ensures complete, accurate documentation of process and meetings.
  • Serves as a key liaison to the key community and health system partners to ensure proper planning of potential events that may impact WCH operations.
  • Is an active participant of the Emergency Preparedness Committee.
  • Reviews and revises policies and procedures on at least an annual basis.

Other (Non-Essential) Job Duties

  • Possess knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and performs audits based upon these standards.
  • Effective communication with internal and external customers which assists in facilitating positive outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current Arizona RN license
  • Requires a proficiency level typically attained with 5 years acute care clinical experience.
  • Requires ability to perform complex statistical analysis and highly developed problem-solving skills.
  • Requires the ability to manage programs and projects.
  • Requires demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with software applications and tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSN, MSN, MPH or related graduate degree
  • Background in public health, industrial, or ambulatory care settings.
  • Professional Certification in one or more of the specialties (Infection Control and/or Employee Health)
  • Experience with process improvement, regulatory/accreditation programs, data management, and analysis including graphic development and presentations is highly desirable.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, and squatting; must be able to stand/walk for portions of the day. Must be able to work paying close attention to detail with frequent interruptions, Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
