General Summary: The Entrepreneurial Makerspace Technician & Instructor will be responsible for maintaining equipment installed in the makerspace, ordering consumables, and managing the access control system for users to calculate per project costs. This individual will facilitate operation of the makerspace during normal business hours, will work with individuals and members of the community to complete projects and will serve as the instructor for related community education/ professional development courses during normal business hours. Tasks will include developing a preventative maintenance schedule for key pieces of equipment, including the electron microscope. The Entrepreneurial Makerspace Technician will assist with the production of the annual investment pitch competition and will facilitate tours, visits and other activities in the makerspace. The technician will be the primary supporter of the makerspace and is expected to work at the College's West Hills Center during normal business hours.


Requirements: Associate's degree required in engineering, nanotechnology, manufacturing, mechatronics, or a similar technical field, with a minimum of two years of experience maintaining complex industrial equipment, including piping systems, educational labs, polymer processing systems and other similar systems. Preference given to individuals with some teaching of community education/professional development courses, particularly in the areas of machining, fabrication, Python programming or additive manufacturing. Exposure to NC3 certification programs is beneficial, as is electron microscopy experience. Must exhibit strong attention to detail, manage responsibilities in a high-energy environment, and work both independently and collaboratively. Must also exhibit strong communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and an entrepreneurial attitude to creatively, adaptively, and enthusiastically take on many challenges at once. Must have reliable transportation and valid driver's license.


Duties:


1. Serve as the primary contact for students/constituents for equipment operation - machining, additive manufacturing, podcast recording, video editing, and soldering.


2. Assist the professor of entrepreneurial manufacturing in developing lab activities for visiting students and conducting outreach to K12 individuals.


3. Ensure safe operation of the facility while maintaining a welcoming environment that encourages students/community members to work in the space.


4. Clean and organize equipment on a daily basis and performs necessary maintenance tasks on a weekly and monthly schedule to promote equipment uptime.


5. Work side-by-side with individuals and staff to assist with the design and fabrication of their concepts and course projects.


6. Teach community education courses for up to 32 hours/month, when needed, during normal business hours.


7. Proctor examinations for industry certifications, including: the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council, the National Coalition of Certification Centers, the Manufacturing Skills Institute and other industry groups.


8. Participate in the maintenance, upgrade and preventative maintenance of all existing and equipment in the laboratory and will be responsible for the installation and training associated with new equipment.


9. Facilitate equipment and software upgrades, and other facility systems as needed.


10. Participate in lab social media and promotion activities.


11. Perform other related duties as required or as assigned, including internal controls regarding safeguarding of department assets, inventory, maintenance of equipment, safety measure standards in laboratory.


Clearances: Current criminal record/child abuse clearances will be required if offered the position and in order to be employed at the College. The three clearances are Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Records Check, and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal Background Check.
