Environmental Manager

Carpenter Co. has a great opportunity available for an Environmental Manager. This position is responsible for providing professional knowledge and expertise in the administration and support of Carpenter's environmental programs within the Temple division. As a large manufacturer of urethane foam and related products, Carpenter Co. operates within a chemical-containment environment, and the Environmental Manager is tasked with ensuring that all environmental practices and objectives are maintained.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of environmental programs to assure compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and the companys policies.
  • Conduct research or perform investigation for the purpose of identifying, abating, or eliminating sources of pollutants or hazards that affect either the environment or the health of our workers and the local population.
  • Using knowledge of various scientific disciplines, may collect, synthesize, study, report, and recommend action based on data derived from measurements or observations of air, water, chemical, and other sources.
  • Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as hazardous condition monitoring, and use of protective equipment.
  • Respond and provides assistance to all emergency environmental situations.
  • Manage and schedule hazardous & non-hazardous waste pickups.
  • Participate in OSHA, IOSHA, DOT, Railroad, RCRA, EPA, Health Department, Consumer Products/Social Compliance, and all internal audits and inspections.
  • In charge of recurring & on-demand external reports such as: Tier II Report, Contingency Plan, Risk Management Reports, Form R, Quarterly air emissions and Hazwaste report.
  • In charge of internal reports such as: Storm Water Pollution Prevention (SWPP), SPCC & Used Oil Plan, Chemical Spill logs, and Master Air Permit records.
  • Provide backup support for our IH/Safety/Worker's Comp Manager.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Science or related field is required
  • Must be aware of both environmental and safety laws in state and federal government.
  • Familiarity with chemical usage, containment and disposal.
  • Ability to work successfully in an autonomous environment
  • Great organization and leadership skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and be willing to work as a team member in a hands-on" environment

Job Snapshot:

Hours: Typically 8 AM to 5 PM plus overtime as necessary to meet deadlines and support a 24 hour manufacturing operation
