Job Description

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Estimator to join the Facilities Management team at Arizona State University. The Estimator will play a crucial role in assessing project costs, preparing accurate estimates, and supporting the planning and budgeting processes for facilities management initiatives. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with operations and project teams to ensure precise and comprehensive cost estimates.

Salary Range

$62,000- 68,000 annually. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona.

Essential Duties

  • Collaborate with facilities teams, operations, project managers, manufacturer representatives, contractors, architects, engineers and/or other outside subject matter experts to gather all relevant information necessary for developing project scope, estimates, and schedules.
  • Analyze project documents, including blueprints, specifications, and other relevant data to determine quantity takeoffs to develop material, labor, and equipment costs.
  • Analyze contractor quotes and estimates if applicable for completeness; compare costs, quantities, and scopes to those already developed.
  • Perform field site visits to thoroughly and safely verify, research, and evaluate existing conditions and systems; document findings through the use of photos, videos, or other electronic means and provide detailed electronic reports identifying issues discovered, and a scope of work along with means and methods of completion.
  • Identify potential risks and opportunities as it relates to cost, schedule, construction, maintenance, longevity, and other factors inherent and important to facilities operations.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for facilities management projects, ensuring alignment with industry standards, university guidelines, and field conditions.
  • Develop cost estimates for new construction, renovation, and maintenance projects based on the developed project scope and field conditions.
  • Develop and electronically maintain historical cost data records for future project reference.
  • Keep up with industry trends, improved products, regulations, and best practices.
  • Make informed recommendations to leadership based on up-to-date market trends, material costs, and developments in the construction industry.
  • Provide support during the bid proposal process, including the preparation of bid documents and comprehensive cost breakdowns.
  • Schedule Project Turnover meetings with Project Managers and other team members as required; support Project Managers and other team members in other meetings as needed.
  • Ability to accurately manage multiple tasks simultaneously, work in a fast paced environment, and turn around estimates in an expedient manner without compromising integrity or thoroughness.

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 6:00am- 3:00pm

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two (2) years of project cost estimating experience; OR, six (6) years of construction related experience, which includes two (2) years of project cost estimating experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in preparing project scope, sketches, markups, and cost estimates for facility projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all phases of repair, construction, and alteration work performed by skilled trades personnel, including knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, and materials of the construction trades.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry standards.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Experience in estimation software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Evidence of a Professional certification in estimating or project management.
  • Experience in working on facilities management projects in a higher education institution.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sustainable and LEED energy-efficient construction practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
  • Experience in scheduling entire building projects with multiple phases.
  • Experience in developing deferred maintenance projects and scope estimates.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local building codes and regulations.
  • Experience with project management skills for coordinating multiple estimates and projects simultaneously.
  • Evidence of effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in working independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

 

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.

 

Occasionally participate in fieldwork, which may require accessing paved, rocky or uneven areas and exposure to dirt, dust, extreme temperatures and inclement weather. May drive ASU vehicles.

Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.

 

This position is dependent on the continuation of funding from a specific source other than general operating funds. As such, this appointment may terminate when the funding is no longer available.
