Job Description

Working directly with the Dean, this position manages business operations, including finance, facilities, HR, budget, compliance, and analytics at the College of Health Solutions. This position is a part of the college's executive leadership team. Under administrative direction, responsible for all aspects of financial management; plays a key role in building the financial and administrative infrastructure for a variety of complex initiatives and actively contributes to negotiations with partners for new business development opportunities to ensure achievement of objectives within established budgetary constraints. This position is also responsible for overseeing the College's HR, facilities, compliance, and analytics teams given their strategic relationship to the financial infrastructure.

Salary Range

$160,000 - $200,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Under the direction of the Dean, provides leadership on financial and operational performance; recommends strategies to address issues, increase efficiency/effectiveness, and improve overall operations. 
  • Leads the annual budget process, financial planning, and monitoring expenditures and compliance.
  • Leads and coordinates preparation of administrative and financial reports. 
  • Develops, evaluates, and recommends changes in administrative policies and procedures. Identifies and resolves problems and issues affecting the department and directs measures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the department. 
  • Supervises and oversees the Director of Human Resources, collaborating with senior leadership, implements appropriate Human Resources management methods and strategies to promote a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement; works consultatively with the ASU Office of Human Resources as needed. 
  • Directs personnel matters such as payroll actions, classification, recruitment, interviewing, selection, new hire actions, employee grievances and other applicable issues.
  • Supervises directly, and through subordinate supervisors, department staff. Oversees and participates in hiring, training, and evaluating department staff. Works with the Director of Human Resources to address performance and behavior deficiencies and recommends and implements corrective action, including termination.
  • Serves as the senior decision-maker and point of contact on finance, administrative and non-technical operations. 
  • Collaboratively develops and delivers a regular cadence of financial reports to senior college leadership, and University Leadership; analyzes and interprets statistics and financial data for predicting resource needs and developing long range plans.
  • Working with the Dean, ensures the financial strength of the college while providing flexibility to make strategic investments.
  • Utilizes strategic innovation to use data as a basis for decision making.
  • Uses analytical information such as enrollment data to develop revenue projections for budgeting purposes.
  • Advises leadership on complex accounting, financial processing, and tax matters, including development of alternatives for such discussions; interprets and applies pertinent rules, regulations, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable university or other governing agencies.
  • Establishes proper internal accounting controls and/or checks and balances to ensure compliance with university/auditing standards; oversees internal and external financial audits and prepares audit documentation.
  • Supports inclusive excellence training and resources for faculty and staff. Encourage and lead an open, respectful environment.
  • Supports professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
  • Leads recurring team meetings with Directors and leadership to collaborate and ensure transparency.
  • Mentors team leaders to ensure their successful professional goals are met.
  • Oversees contracts and regulatory compliance by assisting with contract negotiations and partnerships.
  • Provides advice and information on financial and operational policies and activities as requested; represents departmental interests on committees.
  • Develops, maintains and implements ASU and college policies and procedures. Ensures that University policies are communicated to, and understood and followed by employees.
  • Coordinates or assumes other duties or projects as assigned or directed.


Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND eight (8) years of related administrative experience which includes five (5) years of supervisory experience OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved. 


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in adeptly managing a large complex budget with funding from multiple sources pertaining to universities in multi-campus systems;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legal rules and regulations governing a university;
  • Active CPA designation preferred. 


Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse 75 percent; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work 10 percent. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds 15 percent. Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
