Definition: Under general supervision of the Family Advocacy Center (FAC) Director and/or therapeutic manager, provides therapy and treatment to child, elderly or specific crime victim clients in crisis as a result of victimization. Provides counseling and treatment to clients while coordinating a variety of programs serving crime victims and their non-offending caregivers and families. This job class is treated as FLSA Exempt.
Essential Functions : Essential functions may vary among positions and may include the following tasks, knowledge, abilities, skills and other characteristics. Examples of Tasks
1. The Trauma Therapist functions as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assess, evaluate, and address the client s emotional and psychological needs. The Trauma Therapist provides individual, group, and family therapy as indicated.
2. Provides and coordinates a continuum of evidence-based, trauma-informed treatment services to victims of abuse and their non-offending caregivers.
3. Provides comprehensive evidence-based assessments of client s needs. Tracks and monitors client progress through continued reassessment.
4. Develops and completes a clinically appropriate discharge plan for patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, client, and family as appropriate.
5. Serves as a liaison between the service program and treatment centers.
6. Attends on-going training to apply for, and retain, trauma therapy, child counseling and/or other counselor related licenses.
7. Participates in prevention and early intervention Community awareness events along with FAC team.
8. Provides monthly statistics on client data for monthly and quarterly program reports and other required program data in a proficient manner.
9. Maintains counseling records and writes summaries and reports within 24 hours. Maintains compliance with program, division and department procedures.
10. Performs other job related duties as assigned by the Family Advocacy Center Director.

Special requirements: May be required to work beyond normal work hours including nights, weekends and holidays. May be required to travel.

- Actively participates in staffing during client transition to long term care.
- Develops referral resources for trauma counseling, and other common needs for victims.
- Coordinates client needs with other resource programs, agencies and organizations
6. Attends on-going training to apply for, and retain, trauma therapy, child counseling and/or other counselor related licenses.
- May participate in staff in-service training to improve personal skill set.
- Creates and distributes information to SRPMIC regarding available therapeutic resources.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
- Knowledge of the culture, customs, traditions, laws, history, government and the needs of the families of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
- Knowledge of federal, state and tribal laws regarding child abuse, domestic violence, elder abuse, sexual assault, and other crimes commonly investigated at the FAC; and regarding privacy and confidentiality in regards to client records and information.
- Knowledge of federal, state and tribal laws regarding client rights, mental health, chemical dependency treatment and involuntary mental health commitments.
- Knowledge of case management concepts and practices, counseling techniques and therapies, crisis intervention methods, substance abuse treatments and psychotropic medication use and side effects.
- Knowledge (basic) and understanding of behavioral problems and serious, often chronic, mental illness and substance abuse.
- Knowledge of program evaluation, data collection and assessment.
- Skill providing counseling and therapy to individuals, group and families.
- Skill facilitating small and large groups in order to address program issues, needs and problem resolution.
- Skill assessing client needs, interviewing clients under stressful situations and identifying resources and services available to meet needs.
- Skill assessing, assigning and evaluating the case load of the program staff to ensure quality service.
- Skill utilizing basic chemical dependency or mental health assessment/testing instruments
- Skill maintaining client records including progress notes, case staffing summaries, discharge summaries and other appropriate paperwork.
- Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with the clients, law enforcement personnel, court staff, tribal officials, various service providers, Community Members, SRPMIC staff, and representatives of resource agencies.
- Skill using the personal computer and related software, including MS Office.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain accurate record keeping systems and procedures including computerized record keeping.
- Ability to make home visits and provide alternative solutions for family services.
- Ability to work with a variety of staff members in a team approach to service delivery.
- Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment including copiers, FAX machines and personal computers.
Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience: A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Social Work or a closely related area, AND 3 years full-time case management and therapy. Experience with Native American Communities and trauma-focused work preferred.
- Obtaining and maintaining current certification/licensure in behavioral health field, such as Licensed Clinical Psychologist, LCSW or LPC or eligible to receive such credentials within one year of employment is required.
- Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and experience that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered.
- Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.
