Residence Life and Student Housing Facilities Services Techs play an integral role in providing quality living experience in the residence halls.

UNM Residence Life and Student Housing endeavors to foster inclusive, community-based living environments consciously designed for our residents' personal growth and academic success within well-maintained facilities. This position contributes to the department mission by supporting the quality of the living facilities of Residence Life and Student Housing.

Under the direct supervision of the department Supervisor of Maintenance, the Facilities Services Techs perform a wide range of facilities tasks including non-technical maintenance of plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilating, and/or air conditioning facilities and equipment, at a level not requiring formal licensure. May be required to perform tasks of other unlicensed trades, such as a light equipment operator, carpenter, and painter.

The Facilities Services Tech will:

  • Perform non-technical maintenance of facility
  • Respond to work orders and performs routine structural work
  • Be able to perform assigned duties with little supervision
  • May serve in an after-hours on-call rotation

Typical Tasks Include:

  • Replace light bulbs/fluorescent lamps/light fixture covers
  • Clean light fixtures/reset breakers
  • Repair/replace leaky faucets/valves/showers
  • Unplug drains, sinks, toilets and tubs. Able to snake a drain using K-50, drill drum, toilet auger and air ram
  • Repairs holes in sheetrock walls and touch up paint
  • Repair/replace base cove/molding
  • Repair/replace floor tiles and ceiling tiles
  • Replace/adjust thermostats, bleed systems
  • Install paper towel, soap and toilet paper dispensers
  • Install/hang whiteboards, TVs, pictures, etc.
  • Remove /paint over graffiti
  • Replace small appliances & items such as smoke detectors/garbage disposals
  • Replace window blinds and window balances
  • Escort area techs and contractors
  • Patch and Paint rooms, apartments and exterior surfaces
  • Custodial Services - empty trash/recycling bins; switch out trash shoot dumpsters

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
  • Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
  • If located at the UNM Children's Campus, successful candidate must pass a comprehensive post-offer, pre-employment criminal and New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) fingerprint background check, and a continued successful status will be verified by periodic future background checks.
  • All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

High school diploma or GED; successful completion of PPD Trades Training Program and at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with building maintenance in hotel, apartment or public buildings.
  • Any current trade license or certification
  • Willingness to work weekends if needed, help cover duty-schedule if hired
Additional Requirements

  • This position will require a pre-employment criminal background check. Future and/or continued employment in the position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining a satisfactory background check, which is one that does not include any disqualifying findings.
