DEFINITION

Under direct supervision, perform semi-skilled to skilled work, procure and purchase supplies, track and perform regular and daily maintenance activities, emergency repairs, and special projects and services for the MAAC centers. This includes indoor and outdoor facilities upkeep at the administration offices and all sites as assigned to ensure safety of the children and staff at all sites by providing materials, supplies and services as necessary, to maintain a safe physical environment

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs semi-skilled to skilled work or repairs not limited to, painting, plumbing, electrical, roofing, maintenance of equipment and grounds under lease to or operated by MAAC and utilizes the general maintenance plan, as outlined in the annual goals and objectives statement
  • Maintains effective and cooperative relations with staff, parents, and volunteers, provides guidance to Facility staff, procures and coordinates trainings
  • Assists in preparation of maintenance expenditure adjustment forms for new site work plans; recommends materials and supplies for new construction projects and proposes cost and time estimates for projects from time of request to completion.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports and maintain filing system for correspondence, forms, reports, records, etc.; prepare and submit purchase requisitions, purchase orders, reimbursements, etc.
  • Procures and assembles requisitions for vendor services and supplies, schedules site visits for vendors and service providers, and follows-up on vendor status, timelines and payments
  • Tracks, updates, and provides timely and prioritized responses to assigned work orders and capital improvement requests, and documents accurate and current records of maintenance operations.
  • Maintains an organized warehouse area, storage supplies, tools and equipment, and documents and maintains inventory of materials and equipment for assigned service areas and sites.
  • Drives agency vehicles to various locations to pick up or deliver supplies, equipment, and materials and to provide services.
  • Operates a variety of specialized equipment, hand and power tools related to work performed or assigned; repair, maintains and assures equipment is in safe and proper working condition.
  • Provides additional support for the setup and closeout of sites
  • Participates in the agencys program for volunteers to assist in general and special maintenance and special efforts, including, but not limited to "Hands on San Diego," parent volunteer days, etc.
  • Attend some evening, weekend meeting, conferences, and trainings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Knowledge of:

  • Methods, techniques, tools, terminology, materials and equipment for facility maintenance, landscaping, renovation, and repair.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment, such as computers, calculators, fax machines, copiers
  • Skills in formatting letters, reports, tables, proofreading, and editing to produce professional results.
  • Requirements of maintaining buildings, equipment and facilities in good repair
  • Applicable building codes, ordinances, fire regulations and safety precautions
  • Work health and safety regulations and procedures, OSHA requirements, ADA requirements

Ability to:

  • Operate and use different hand and power tools
  • Perform tasks independently

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a full-time general facility, maintenance position within the last four (4) years, including, but not limited to such tasks as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and landscaping.
  • Twenty-four (24) units of trade/vocational preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in utilizing software, including, but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the internet, etc. required.
  • Ability to use Visio software highly desirable
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking, reading, and writing highly desirable.

HEALTH STATUS

Must have a physical examination, TB clearance and a drug screen by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC as well as immunization records for influenza*, pertussis and measles as required by state and federal regulations prior to the first day of employment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to stand, walk and sit, talk or hear both in person and by telephone, uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms. An employee also is regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl, climb or balance and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret information; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret people and situations; use basic math; learn and apply new information or skills; work under intensive deadlines and interact with MAAC management, administrators, staff, teachers, parents, family members, children and others encountered in the course of work.

BACKGROUND CLEARANCE

All positions are subject to a background/education check, DMV check, NSOR, exclusion and debarment checks prior to hire and periodically throughout employment as required by various funding sources.

Note: California Start law requires background criminal checks on anyone who works in a licensed childcare facility who is not a client. Must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance, signed criminal record statement, and signed Acknowledgement to Report Child Abuse form prior to the first day of employment.

TRANSPORTATION

Must have and maintain a valid California Drivers License, daily use of a personal, insured vehicle, and have and maintain a motor vehicle driving record acceptable to MAACs insurance carrier. Incumbents will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Program.
