Job Description
Candidates interested in a career with a focus on financial and project management are invited to apply to join the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (IAFSE) Research Operations team within the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport, and Energy (SEMTE).
Members of the SEMTE Research Operations team are responsible for providing financial oversight of federal grants and contracts and discretionary accounts while working closely with faculty who are making impactful advances in solving today’s global issues. Individuals who understand the principles of financial practices, possess excellent customer service skills, and value continuous improvement are desired.
This is a mid-career track position (Level 3 of 7) with opportunities to increase complexity based on job performance, as well as growth into multiple branches of specialization or supervisory tracks.
Salary Range
$50,823 - $63,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties
- Analyzes and prepares reports for financial information on a variety of accounts. Forecasts accounts to avoid deficits and provide information to end users for decision making.
- Approves financial and payroll transactions, ensuring the expenses are allowable with ASU and sponsoring agency/contract conditions and requirements.
- Provides guidance and assistance in preparing administrative post award documents. Responds to requests timely using effective interpersonal communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills and methods.
- Responsible for preparing budgets and forecasts for non-sponsored accounts in ASU financial system.
- Works under deadlines, manages multiple responsibilities and duties, while navigating interruptions and unclear and/or changing situations.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience, OR, seven (7) years of related experience, OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

- Experience in preparing detailed documents and account management.
- Experience being a problem solver who can take initiative, manage workload effectively and set priorities while being flexible.
- Experience working independently as well as a member of a team.
- Experience in building strong relationships and ability to influence without authority
- Demonstrated knowledge of all applicable regulations governing management of grants and/or contracts for sponsors such as NSF, DoD, DOE, ONR, AFOSR, AFRL, and ARO.
- Demonstrated skills such as understanding generally accepted accounting principles, mathematical comprehension, and data analysis.
- Evidence of effective communication skills.
- Experience working in higher education.
- Experience using ASU systems including Enterprise Research Administration (ERA), Workday for financial, PeopleSoft for human resources, Adaptive Planning/Workday for budgeting.
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse
- Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
- Infrequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts
- Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions
- Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals Supervises designated employees that include hiring, training, evaluations, disciplinary actions and scheduling and time approvals
