Food & Nutrition Specialist
Department: Prevention Intervention and Behavioral Health
Location: Los Lunas
Salary: $17.44 Hourly
FT/PT Status: Reg Full Time

Job Description:

FOOD AND NUTRITION SPECIALIST: Under the supervision of the Operations Manager of the Valencia office, the Food and Nutrition Specialist will provide all services related to menu and meal production for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree and two (2) years experience in either child nutrition program; or any combination of education and experience equal to four years.

MUST be Bi-lingual (Spanish) as 27% of clients/providers are only Spanish speaking.

Must have strong computer skills.

Must be able to operate all modern office machines.

Ability to deal effectively with the public.

Must e able to follow and carry out written instructions quickly and accurately.

JOB CHARACTERISTICS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This is a professional position, which requires organizational and communication skills, as well a judgment, tact and diplomacy in contacts with Head Start employees, community residents, parents, vendors and government agencies. Strict adherence is required to all regulations concerning confidentiality.

Good general health and ability to lift and carry 55 lbs are essential. Must be able to stand, walk, bend and lift moderate to heavy loads. Fingerprint process and under the skin TB Skin Test are required. An initial physical exam is required and then periodically thereafter.

Frequent travel is required by employee and proof of satisfactory car insurance is required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Not Inclusive):

  • Development and implement a Nutrition Work Plan with approved CACFP providers that meet the nutritional standards of the program.
  • Provide followup on the CYFD established safety plan for each provider.
  • Assist in the collection and compilation of information required for reimbursement.
  • Conduct date entry on each meal provided by the registered and/or licensed home care provider. Must learn the EPICS system of data collection.
  • Will work collaboratively with the Operations Manager in reviewing monthly menus and developing reimbursement for meals served.
  • Review and analyze Child Nutrition paperwork ensuring compliance with industry standards and Federal, State and Local Regulations.
  • Monitor compliance with USDA regulations regarding food preparation and serving.
  • Observe and evaluate Child Nutrition work procedures to ensure quality standards and service on a quarterly basis.
  • Must be willing to travel to service sites to provide required Home Monitoring visits with each provider on a quarterly basis.CACFP sites include: Albuquerque (Bernalillo County);City of Socorro (Socorro County); Estancia, Mountanair (Torrance County), as well as, Los Lunas, Belen in Valencia County.Mileage reimbursement available.
  • Monitor food preparation and methods, quantities prepared, size of portions, presentationof food to ensure food is prepared and presented in an acceptable manner.
  • Ensure that each meal recorded on menu records meet the daily requirements for the food program. Menus and recipes must meet all food serving requirements in correct amounts for ages 0-13 on each menu records.
  • Ensure contribution information for each menu item, (CN labels, USDA Food facts sheets).
  • Obtain from the provider a Doctors note for each client that has a food allergy for client files.
