Job Description:

Under the leadership of the department director and in consultation with the Director of Advanced Practice Clinicians and the Programs Medical Director, the Genetics Nurse Practitioner (NP) has knowledge in cancer genetics and genomics, and its application to cancer risk assessment and prevention. The Genetics NP is responsible for applying genomic science to perform and analyze genetic risk assessments, educate patients and families on their risk profiles for predisposition to specific cancers or cancer syndromes, how this risk may impact their ongoing health management, and serves as a patient advocate. The Genetics NP works independently, as well as collaboratively, to diagnose, prescribe treatment, manage and evaluate patient care. The NP functions under general Nurse Practitioner Standardized Procedures, approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (CIDP) and reports to the Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Experience:

Previous clinical experience as a RN is required. Excellent communication and leadership skills, as well as organizational, analytical, and written and presentation skills required. 2 years of recent NP experience working with Hematology/Oncology patients preferred. Previous experience with cancer genetics, cancer risk assessment, and genetic counseling preferred.

Education:

Masters Degree in Nursing and relevant Nurse Practitioner training/certification.

Licensure/Certification:

Must have active Nurse Practitioner state license and active Nurse Practitioner Board Certification. Certified by a recognized national certifying body that has established standards for nurse practitioners. Furnishing license issued by the Board of Registered Nursing required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required. Board Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling, American Board of Medical Genetics, Advanced Practice Nurse in Genetics (APNG), Advanced Genetics Nursing Certification (AGN-BC), Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP) or eligible to sit for the next offered exam preferred. The certification must be obtained within two (2) years of hire as a condition of employment.
