JOB SUMMARY
Review technical documents for processing and implementing splits and combinations of real property for the Assessors Office. Draw, edit and update mapping functions within the Geographic Information System (GIS) database and review ownership and parcel history under basic supervision. Example of Duties

Work in this classification requires an individual to be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily. TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Review and process technical documents describing real property boundaries and ownership. Assign parcel numbers for tax assessments within the GIS database
  • Implement parcel splits, combinations, and legal acreage changes and update parcel maps using GIS software and other specialized applications.
  • Track technical documents and identify potential impact on department codes and records.
  • Review technical documents and other records to evaluate data quality and accuracy.
  • Research and create custom maps utilizing the GIS database upon request.
  • Update and maintain the GIS database according to policies and procedures.
  • Correct data and make revisions in response to changes and additional data sets integrated into the GIS database.
  • Assist County staff and provide assistance to clients and the general public in obtaining information.
  • Communicate technical information verbally and in writing to County staff, other stake holders, and the general public.
  • Perform quality control checks to assure data integrity; edit and refine GIS data as assigned.
  • Create and update clear and accurate property descriptions for Assessor parcels.
  • Produce traverse files from legal descriptions; transfer files into the GIS database to establish parcel boundaries and update attributes within the parcel fabric.
  • Review technical documents, deeds, and other records to update ownership and to evaluate data quality.
  • To promote and adhere to the workplace values of accountability, commitment, and teamwork to help enrich lives beyond expectation.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Associates degree in Engineering, Cartography, Computer Science, or related field.
  • One (1) year of experience working with Geographic Information Systems.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Valid Arizona Drivers License within 30 days of hire.
Supplemental Information

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic concepts of surveying and mapping.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques of Geographic Information System software.
  • Knowledge of principles of record keeping and records management.
  • Knowledge of basic office equipment, techniques, and quality standards.
  • Skill in using GIS software programs and other specialized application software.
  • Skill in researching parcel information and performing accurate data entry and mathematical calculations.
  • Skill in reading and understanding geographic and technical information in a variety of data formats.
  • Skill in professional writing techniques including grammar, punctuation, and typing.
  • Ability to think critically and analyze information from a variety of data sources.
  • Ability to provide effective customer service and deal tactfully and courteously with the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. The work also requires the ability to finger, handle, reach, perform repetitive motion, lift, push, hear, speak, and demonstrate mental and visual acuity.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires the ability to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
