Job Description
Purpose:
Perform a variety of multimedia tasks to assist the Athletic Communications staff in the external promotion and storytelling of GCUs athletic programs and student-athletes.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with planning and execution of department-wide and team-specific social media strategies.
- Produce written content, such as game previews and recaps for GCULopes.com.
- Respond to internal and external media requests.
- Use appropriate software to track official in-game statistics of home competitions, as assigned.
- Create and use digital media assets to enhance social media efforts.
- Opportunity to serve as primary and/or secondary communications contacts for team(s), as assigned.
- Develop working relationship with teams coaching staff and student-athletes, as assigned.
- Assist in the development of publications, such as media guides and game notes, using layout software.
Qualifications:
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively.
- Highly motivated with desire to go beyond assigned tasks.
- Meticulous with a keen attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong command of written language and familiarity in Associated Press style.
- Ability to work on deadlines, often with short turnarounds.
- Must be willing to work, when necessary, outside of normal business hours, which often includes evenings, weekends or holidays.
- Willingness and ability to learn new digital platforms, including website management system, SIDEARM, and stat-keeping platforms.
- Strong computer proficiency, including email, Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms and other software applications.
- Preferred familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and InDesign.
- Willingness to learn necessary technical skills of position.
Requirements
- Be admitted to a graduate degree seeking program at GCU. (Certificate only programs do not satisfy this requirement.)
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0. (If a student is newly admitted to the University, the admission GPA is considered for this requirement.) A student must also maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during their employment.
- Be enrolled in as a "regular" (not provisional) degree-seeking student for at least 6 graduate level units leading to the degree. (Undergraduate or audited courses do not satisfy this requirement.) Hiring departments may require a higher enrollment.
- Assistantships may be revoked at any time duties are not fulfilled satisfactorily.
- Because of the role as student and employee, graduate assistants assume responsibility for upholding the Universitys Student Code of Conduct.
- Graduate Assistants are eligible for waiver of tuition for the period employed. Waiver of tuition may be taxable income.
- Graduate Assistants must follow the HR employment workflow processes and pre-employment background checks.
- Graduate Assistants have restricted work hours (maximum of 29 hours per week).
- After all degree requirements for the planned program of study are met, a student is no longer eligible to receive a graduate assistantship.
- "Incomplete" grades must be removed during the period following the teaching period in which the "I" was recorded in order to continue the assistantship.
- Graduate Assistants are part-time employees and not eligible for GCUs employment benefits, except those stipulated by law.
