JOB DESCRIPTION:

NORC's Strategic Communications and External Affairs department seeks a current graduate student to fulfill the role of Graduate Research Assistant II to support our research efforts.

As a condition of employment, all NORC employees and contractors - including those working remotely - must be fully vaccinated (as defined by current CDC guidance) against COVID-19.

DEPARTMENT:

STRATEGIC COMMUNICATIONS & EXTERNAL AFFAIRS

Strategic Communications and External Affairs supports the entire NORC organization with expertise in corporate communications and creative services, external affairs, internal communications, and project-level communications. We help promote NORC to the public: we work with members of the media to publicize our research projects and our expertise; we support external events where NORC experts present or speak; we publish NORCs annual report; we maintain the external NORC website, www.norc.org; and we manage NORCs social media presence on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct research on reporters, influencers, media outlets, and other research organizations
  • Draft media materials such as press releases, media advisories, social media content, and others
  • Preparation of research findings, in an easy-to-understand format
  • Administrative tasks such as material preparation, note taking, scheduling, and others
REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • Must be currently enrolled in a Graduate program, preferably in Communications/Media Studies or Public Relations
  • Must be able to work 10-15 hours per week during academic years; possibility exists for increased hours during term and summer breaks
  • Must have outstanding interpersonal, critical reasoning, analytic, and writing skills
  • Experience with data analysis and Communications metrics are preferred. Must be able to provide context while presenting and discussing metrics
  • Must demonstrate strong problem-solving and time-management capabilities
  • Must have the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, both independently and potentially on project teams
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office software is expected
