Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Polyol Technical Service Group Leader at our Reinhart Technical Center in Richmond, Virginia. This position will lead the Polyol Technical Service Group to support the needs of customers and the Chemical Sales Team

As the successful candidate, you will be expected to manage the polyol technical service and applications efforts. This group collaborates with the Chemical Sales organization through customer interactions and laboratory efforts to drive chemical sales. This management position requires strong leadership capabilities, project management, multi-tasking, communication skills, problem-solving, relationship building, and laboratory practices including recording of experimental work and project information tracking.


Your additional responsibilities as Group Leader will include:

  • Manage and execute customer lab projects as well as provide technical service at customer sites
  • Mentor technical service group members in polymer characterization, problem solving, and communication
  • Provide manufacturing support for specialty products related to customer needs
  • Work with customers to understand their applications and chemical requirements
  • Communicate with customers to understand technical issues and lead project work with internal resources to develop root causes
  • Provide technical input and help support regulatory needs for Chemical Division products
  • Monitor competitor technologies and activities in the urethane field and maintain a competitive database of products
  • Create and maintain technical data and marketing materials for product line
  • Identify market needs through customer interactions, industry events, supplier relationships, and other industry sources
  • Provide technical presentations and training as required



  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Materials Science with appropriate coursework or experience involving polymers
  • Master's degree in Chemistry or Materials Science, preferred
  • Strong understanding of polymer chemistry and polymer characterization techniques
  • Experience with US regulations as they apply to chemical production, preferred
  • 2+ years of technical industry experience in polymer or material science discipline
  • Experience with urethane or urethane raw material chemistry preferred
  • Ability to travel 4 nights per month
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
