Job Description

The Lakewood Family YMCA is a rapidly growing and progressive branch that is looking for individuals who can positively contribute to our team. The Lakewood YMCA Gymnastics Center is looking for a Gymnastics Coach to coach gymnasts between the ages of 6 to 18 years of age who will provide members a revitalized experience. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Gymnastics Coach will be responsible for providing a safe, enjoyable and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement. This is a part time opportunity with a varied work schedule.

Essential Functions:

  1. Instruct participants in gymnastics.
  2. Verify participants are on role sheets.
  3. Advance children from one level to the next, following necessary testing procedures.
  4. Plan each lesson in advance (with Program Director input if necessary) for maximum participation. Make sure participants rotate events according to schedule.
  5. Attend your Team Level performances and/or competitions.
  6. Assist director in coordinating USAG and YMCA meets, demonstrations & fundraising.
  7. Inform supervisor if equipment is broken or lost.
  8. Build relationships with parents and show your interest in their child. Keep the parents informed of new skills their child has learned or needs to work on.
  9. Report all accidents to supervisor and fill out accident (incident) reports thoroughly. Know emergency procedures.
  10. Advance children from one level to the next, following necessary testing procedures.
  11. Instruct all participants in the safety rules.
  12. Assist in grouping participants according to skill level.
  13. Make sure participants rotate events accordingly.
  14. Assist at demonstrations and shows.
  15. Assist in maintaining clean attractive gymnastic facility.
  16. Assist with gymnast of the month certificates and other rewards and incentives.
  17. Attend all staff meetings, trainings and other YMCA functions as required by Supervisor.
  18. Maintain open lines of communication with participant, coaches, referee, staff and supervisor.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Education & Certifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. CPR/First Aid certification required.
  2. Must be 18 years of age.
  3. Criminal Clearance: Including Fingerprints and background clearance
  4. Health screening with negative TB Test and negative Drug Test Screening.
  5. Complete all required online training(s)
  6. Gymnastics background and/or organized sport involvement required.

Working Conditions:

Environmental Factors: Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. gymnasium and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces. Noise level is usually moderate.
