POSITION PURPOSE:
The Long Term Care (LTC) Health Unit Clerk is a member of the health team who functions as a catalyst to assure appropriate information flows among team members, to other departments and outside entities as needed. Responsible for maintaining accurate registration of the LTC residents and updating information as needed depending on Intermediate Care or Skilled Need level. The LTC Health Unit Clerk must be well organized with the ability to interact with all customers on and who enter the facility. This position is key to customer service.


KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Must be at least eighteen (18) years old.
2. Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
3. Prefer a working knowledge of Medical Terminology.
4. One year experience in health care related field preferred, or one year of course work in medical related classes (i.e. Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry, etc.).
5. Certified Nurse Aide certification required.
6. Maintains BLS certification.
7. Speaking, listening, and writing skills required to effectively communicate with others.
8. Prefer one year experience working with computers (including Word and Outlook), medical record keeping, filing skills, and telephone communication systems.
9. Working knowledge of CPSI computer system including registration/admitting, charge entry and Point of Care preferred, or ability to learn and work independently within 30 days of hire.

ENVIRONMENT:
South Peninsula Hospital is a combination 22-bed critical assess hospital and 28-bed skilled LTC Facility located on the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula. The position requires walking and standing for prolonged periods, stooping, sitting, and the ability to lift large loads without injury to self or others. Persons in this position may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens and infectious diseases, falls, needle stick injuries, and muscle strains. Mechanical lifts are available for lifting residents as needed. Generally, physical demands are moderate and most work is performed inside. Working hours may fluctuate based on the demands of the work and scheduling needs
