Marana lies approximately 20 minutes northwest of downtown Tucson and 75 minutes southeast of Phoenix. Position Description

The Town of Marana is seeking a Historian to work in the Town Manager Department. This is a part-time position and an exciting opportunity for someone interested in having a direct impact on promoting Marana to become a premier destination for business, leisure, and international travelers, as well as outdoor enthusiasts.

Expected Hiring Range: $47,295.13 - $59,118.62
Salary Range: $47,295.13 - $70,943.24

  • Placement within the salary range is dependent on direct experience, internal equity and/or budget
  • Salary will be prorated for part-time work
Examples of Duties

  • Preserves, interprets and documents historic resources related to the Town of Marana.
  • Conducts historical research related to the Town of Marana.
  • Writes documentation and summary reports for historic and archival documents.
  • Presents to Town Management, Town Council, boards, commissions, citizen groups and general public.
  • Develops outreach and educational plans to promote Maranas heritage to the public, community organizations, and visitors.
  • Communicates in a positive manner with civic groups, non-profits, and the general public to connect the public with the history of the town.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of strategies identified under the Strategic Plans Cherished Heritage focus area.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field that is acquired through a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Ability to organize, evaluate, and present information effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Over three years of related experience
  • Valid Arizona Driver License
  • Ability to pass both the Town of Marana background check and a motor vehicle records check

An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the desired knowledge, skills & abilities to successfully perform essential functions may be considered.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with museum or historic site management and administration, including exhibit or program development and supervising staff.
  • Knowledge of Town of Marana and regional history.
  • Familiarity with records management and archival theory, methods, and practice.
  • Excellent time management, and written and oral communication skills.
