Job Description

This position assists clients of the Company with and performs household tasks, and assists with the performance of activities of daily living, when the clients are not able to perform the tasks themselves. Tasks are performed in accordance with a Plan of Care and/or under the direct supervision of the client family member or authorized representative. This position reports directly to the assigned Help At Home, Inc. Supervisor.


Responsibilities





Assistance as follows:


  1. * Bathing (tub/shower: helping client in and out)
  2. * Partial bath (face, hands, feet, back, bottom; client self-bathes rest of body)
  3. Oral hygiene
  4. * Hair care
  5. * Shaving
  6. * Intact skin care (application of lotion to unbroken skin)
  7. * Dressing client
  8. * Clipping hair (not a haircut)
  9. * Hand and foot care
  10. * Application of cosmetics
  11. Mobility: Assist with stability of client as he/she ambulates independently using cane, crutch, or walker; Transfer between bed and chair (only if client is weight bearing);
  12. Housekeeping Services: Limited to the clients personal area, unless otherwise specified;
  13. Nutrition: Meal planning, preparation, and clean-up
  14. Elimination: Assist with bedside commode, toilet
  15. Incontinent or involuntary care
  16. Emptying urine collection and colostomy bags
  17. Safety: Use of the principles of health and safety in relation to self and client
  18. * Identify and eliminate safety hazards
  19. * Practice health protection and cleanliness by appropriate techniques of hand washing, waste disposal and household tasks
  20. Other: Reminding client to self-administer medication; Reality orientation and sensory stimulation
  21. Running essential errands such as:
  22. * Grocery shopping
  23. * Escorting to medical appointments * Prescription pick-up
  24. * Household supply shopping
  25. Assistance with correspondence and bill paying.


The Attendant Care worker is NOT PERMITTED to perform any of the following:

  • Perform any medical tasks, including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Administer shots, including insulin.
  • Pour any medication or place medication in the clients mouth.
  • Administer any enema.
  • Administer eye drops.
  • Change the dressing on a wound.
  • Cut the clients finger or toe nails.
  • Bed baths/perineal care
  • Occupied bed changes
  • Weight bearing transfer or ambulation
  • Skin care on broken skin
  • Passive range of motion exercises, turns, positions
  • Assistance with crutch ambulation
  • Nail care of diabetic clients
  • Any other activities that must be performed by a licensed health care professional.
  • Qualifications
  1. Must be at least 18 years of age; and
  2. Must have a valid High School diploma or equivalent; and
  3. Experience in managing a home or in care giving /or/ experience as an Attendant; and
  4. Demonstrate basic knowledge and use of home management skills, cleaning nutrition and cooking skills; and
  5. Be in good physical health, including documentation of a general health screening and a tuberculosis test within six (6) months prior to the first assignment; and
  6. Completion of the Help At Home, Inc. pre-service training program and achievement of an average score of 80% or greater on the Company exam; and
  7. Demonstrate a caring attitude toward all persons regardless of age or any physical or mental disability; and
  8. Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, office staff and the general public; and
  9. Demonstrate the ability to effectively follow written and oral directions and instruction; and

  10. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, which includes possessing the ability to read and write.
