Position Summary

The CNAH is looking for a responsible and skilled HS Research Specialist to join our team. The qualified candidate will coordinate multiplecommunity-based research programs with American Indian tribal andoff-Reservation partners. The research has varying scopes, may be scientific,research, education, community-based and may exist as a discreetly fundedsubset of an integrated, grant-funded program activity.

The HS research specialist must have in-depth knowledge ofand experience with: Native American community health issues; projectimplementation; establishing and maintaining positive community relationships;human research protections; and community-based research including quantitativeand qualitative data collection, management, and analysis.

The successful candidate will:
Collaborate with the Principal Investigator and associated research teams to plan and monitor CNAH research grant operations. This may include collaborating with a team of researchers to design, organize, and monitor projects; maintaining and updating study timelines and chronology of research activities; assist with preparation of research reports, presentations, and manuscripts.
Coordinate the human research protections process and any other regulatory submission documents as required by the protocol such as tribal or community IRBs. This may include preparing initial review documentation, annual reports, and modifications to the study protocol; and establishing and organizing study files, including regulatory binders and assuring that informed consents are appropriately implemented and signed.
Support the active implementation of the research as required by the protocol including conducting the informed consent process, screening participants, facilitating focus groups, conducting interviews, transcribing audio recordings, collecting surveys, coding and entering data, tracking participant incentive gift cards, and other related activities.
Coordinate and participate in meetings of the Center for Native American Health and research partners including scheduling meetings, creating meeting agendas and minutes, printing and copying materials; and will assist with facilitation of meetings.
Maintain project related verbal and written communication including preparation of research reports, presentations, and manuscripts; composing emails, making telephone calls; sending text messages; organizing conference calls via teleconference and Zoom; general communication about the study; and maintaining respectful and positive community relationships.

TERM APPOINTMENT; FUNDING AVAILABLE THROUGH 5/31/2022; CONTINUANCE BEYOND THAT DATE SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF ADDITIONAL FUNDING. The CNAH has a 5 year grant and is currently in its 2nd year of funding and continued funding is likely.

Conditions of Employment
  • For individual positions in which driving is a job requirement, a valid NM driver's license and valid UNM driver's permit will be required.
  • Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of American Indian tribal and community protocols regarding communication, professionalism, and engagement.

1-year experience with University and tribal human research protections to implement community-based participatory research protocols.

Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, Planning, or related field.

Experience working with tribal and/or off-Reservation American Indian organizations and individuals on issues related to public or community health.

Advanced coordination and organizational skills and ability to multi-task.

Able to travel and work flexible work schedules as needed that may include evenings and weekends.

Able to work from home or other remote location unsupervised.
