Position Summary |
The Department of Neurosciences seeks a highly motivated and organized individual for a Health Sciences Research Tech 2 position to join our research group. The ideal candidate will work with laboratory rat and mouse models that primarily involves behavioral assessment for light touch responses applied to the hindpaws, and drug efficacy assessment. Research will also require comfort with data entry, analysis and graphics presentation. Under general supervision, the technician will perform microscope analysis using immunohistological assays, and biochemical analysis of proteins and RNA-based molecules. Some cell culture will be required. The research focuses on the effects of Prenatal Alcohol Exposure on neuroimmune function of the brain and spinal cord. Performs standard research protocol, under detailed and controlled research parameters, in a health sciences laboratory, clinical, and/or field research setting. Conducts a variety of standardized tests and procedures; prepares data, samples, and/or specimens, and sets up and operates standard laboratory, clinical, or field testing equipment of standard complexity. Verifies and records data, and performs preliminary manipulation of experiment and/or test results, providing basic data analyses, summaries, and interpretations.
Benchtop biochemical assays are standard protocols performed under detailed and controlled research parameters in a health sciences laboratory at the Health Sciences Center. The technician will be fully engaged with various experiments, will record data, and will provide summary and interpretation of experimental results. Minimum Qualifications |
High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. |
Preferred Qualifications |
Preference will be given to candidates with a B.S. or B.A degree with some laboratory experience from classes during undergraduate studies Preference will be given to candidates who have taken Biopsychology and/or Biochemistry, or Biology. |
