Position Description
Performs specialized work in the planning, conducting and/or supervising of original research at TTUHSC. Responsible for participating in, planning, scheduling and/or supervising research projects and the interpretation of the results for publication. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions
Breeding of animals for desired genotypes. Genotyping of mice using genomic DNA prepared from tail biopsies and PCR, and southern blotting methods. Collection of tissues from animals for biochemical and molecular analysis, culture of primary mouse cells, including fibroblasts an neurons.

Preparation and culture of cells and tissues for histological immunofluorescence, immunohistochemical and immunocytochemical analysis. Amplification of TNA and DNA isolated from a variety of cells and tissues using PCR based methods. Sites directed mutagenesis, cloning, and sequencing.

Protein isolation, purification, identification, and quantitation using SDS-PAGE, western blot, and immunoprecipitation analysis.

Perform staining of cells/tissues for immunofluorescence analysis and digital imaging of stained cells and tissues using microscopes, including confocal microscope.

Biochemical assays and methods, including kinase assay, ELISA, RIA, western blot, and immunoprecipitation analysis, etc. Analysis of expression genes and proteins.

Collects, records, maintains, and interprets data. Prepares data for presentations and participation in weekly lab meetings.

Responsible for day to day maintenance of lab and lab equipment, including ordering supplies, washing glassware, etc.

Other duties are required to ensure the smooth operation of the research lab and to facilitate the conduct of approved research duties.

Position Specific Qualifications:
This position requires an engagement in an advanced level of scientific, technical, and administrative work in support of research efforts in the laboratory. The duties include, but are not limited to; participating in research, data collection, and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols: developing and evaluating new research, data collection, and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; developing and evaluating new research techniques and procedures including: Protein isolation, purification, quantitation, separation (SDS-PAGE) and related studies; RNA and DNA extraction, purification and quantitation protocols and related studies; Amplification of RNA and DNA isolated from a variety of cells and tissues using PCR based methods, Site directed mutagenesis, cloning and sequencing; Will be responsible for preforming histological immunocytochemical analysis of human, rat, and mice tissues; Will perform digital imaging of cells and tissues using microscopes, including confocal microscope; Breeding animals for desired genotypes and genotyping or mice using PCE; Analysis of expression genes and proteins; Biochemical assays and methods, including kinase assays, phosphatase assays, western blot, immunofluorescence and immunoprecipitation, etc.; Maintenance of accurate and up-to-date lab records and preparation of date for presentations.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ideal candidate will: Have a Master's degree in the general of neurosciences. Be highly experienced with 1 to 2 years of experience in related laboratory research methods for conducting biomedical research. Have 1 to 2 years of experience and skills in animal work to include breeding for desired genotypes or willing to work with laboratory research animals. Will demonstrate having 1 to 2 years of experience independent supervisory and organizational sills required for a biomedical research laboratory.

Required Qualifications
