Overall Job Objective

What Success Looks Like In This Job

Performs professional accounting work dealing with multiple accounting systems and transactions. Troubleshoots and improvises to accommodate unique and difficult accounting transactions. Provides accounting services to the Agency in order to maintain the fiscal records in accordance with County, State, and Federal requirements and ensures the maximum reimbursement of expenditures from outside agencies.

Examples of Duties for Success

  • Downloads State Electronic Benefits Transfer, cost allocations, and revenue transactions to the general ledger, transfers and verifies data to the Dashboard Financial Model.
  • Analyzes monthly balance sheet accounts and cash reconciliation with the Treasurer's Office.
  • Responsible for reviewing financial data for accuracy.
  • Prepares Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards.
  • Provides training to accountants as necessary.
  • Provides support to Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable personnel.
  • Assists in the development of financial policies.
  • Maintains Chart of Accounts to ensure proper coding.
  • Prepares month-end and year-end accounting entries.
  • Supports state and county auditors in completion of fieldwork by preparing trial balance sheets, various work papers, and responding to any questions.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications for Success

  • Knowledge of and ability to carry out finance and accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of the State accounting system, rules and regulations.
  • Ability to educate and train other staff.
  • Ability to interpret rules and regulations to carry out reporting requirements and accounting transactions.
  • Ability to prepare financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting standards.
  • Ability to analyze and report on accounts and funds.
  • Ability to make mathematical and percentage computations, balance and reconcile records resolving discrepancies.
  • Ability to work within guidelines as set forth by GAAFR (Governmental Accounting, Auditing and Financial Reporting) and CDHS Volume VII, and Uniform Grant Guidance.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
More Qualifications for Success

  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience; strongly prefer experience with Human Services accounting functions.
  • Education and Training: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • License or Certificate: None.
  • Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check.
