Position Summary UNMs Facilities Management (FM) is seeking to hire an experienced and professional HVAC Tech 2 to join our FM-Area 1 division. The ideal candidate will perform routine repairs and maintenance on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems including air distribution machinery, pneumatic and digital controls, hot and chilled water distribution, and variable volume systems. This position is also responsible to employ specially designed software and remote computer links to monitor systems and troubleshoot malfunctions in addition to other job-related duties as assigned.
Facilities Management is responsible for the care and upkeep of the physical campus and built environment. Totaling more than 12 million square feet of interior space and 680 acres of land. In addition, our department maintains the Universitys district energy system providing electricity, steam, chilled water and domestic water through its own distribution systems.

Conditions of Employment
  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 4 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.Possession of a current New Mexico State Journeyman's Refrigeration License (JR) and EPA Universal Refrigerant Recovery Certification.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge and experience with low pressure steam systems and components including hot decks, PRVs, relief valves, steam traps, temperature controls, condensate systems, heat exchangers, coils etc.
  • Working knowledge and experience with chilled & hot water hydronic systems and components including 2&4 pipe systems, circulating pumps, strainers, air eliminators, cold & hot decks, , fan coil systems, etc.
  • Experience calibrating, testing, troubleshooting and replacement of pneumatic components and (DDC) direct digital controls.
  • Working knowledge and experience with monitoring, troubleshooting and adjusting set points to Building Automation
  • Systems software such as Automated Logic, Delta, I-Net, Tracer Summit etc.
  • Experience performing startup / shutdown, maintenance and repair of evaporative cooler systems, air washers including the replacement of pumps, media, motors, float assemblys, blowdowns etc.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Water Treatment processs to reduce / eliminate scale buildup in evaporative coolers, tube bundles, coils, hot /cold closed loops etc.
  • Working knowledge and experience of 1 phase & 3 phase electrical HVAC system components including fuses, contactors, relays, capacitors, motors, compressors, VFDs, thermostats etc.
  • Experience maintaining accurate paperless preventive and corrective maintenance records on a tablet device (iPad)
