DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Injury Prevention Technician will assist and work closely with the Injury Prevention Specialist in developing
prevention, intervention and educational activities for GRIC. This position exists to increase program capacity to
ensure a successful outcome of meeting the program goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist the Injury Prevention Specialist in the planning, coordination and implementation of injury prevention
awareness, intervention and promotional campaigns; providing education on injury prevention to community
members and other injury prevention partners.
Assist in developing and disseminating program brochures, ?yers, and educational materials; including
conducting community surveys.
Act as a liaison by being a positive role model with the GRIC program and Community and other injury
prevention partners and develop positive partnerships.
Assist with administrative functions of the program (i.e., answering and monitoring phone, tracks and sends
out all incoming/outgoing program correspondence, maintains program calendar of activities, and monitors
and tracks program inventory).
Input, monitor and track program activities including demographics for statistical use; utilize current program
database systems to report activities electronically and assist in creating statistical program data; including
submitting monthly reports.
Assist in the distribution of child restraint devices and provide education about child restraint devices and
installation techniques.
Ensure confidentiality and protect the privacy and security of protected client health information
Travel when necessary to perform work functions and attend training.
Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABHJTY:
Some knowledge of the concepts, principles, methods, and techniques of community-based injury prevention
and social marketing.
Some knowledge of epidemiology and public health training principles.Knowledge of Native American culture, local Tribal government and community members of the Gila River
Indian Community.Knowledge of privacy and security requirements concerning release of information and the ability to
implement measures to ensure privacy.Skill and ability to make clear and concise oral and written presentations in informal and formal settings.
Skill and ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with people of diverse ethnicity and cultures.
Moderate skill and ability to use word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation software.Ability to adapt to changes, demands, and growth within the program.Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands.Ability to perform assigned duties in a timely manner and with little supervision.Ability to work in a variety of settings, including occasional evening and/or weekend hours.Ability to work in an outdoor environment that involves exposure to adverse weather conditions and related
hazards.Ability to work beyond normal business hours, weekends and special events.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other employees, Community Officials
and the general public.Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or GED and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in an environmental health, injury
prevention, or public health related program; preparing and presenting education materials.ADDITIONAL RE! EUIREMENTS:Obtain Child Passenger Safety certification within six (6) months from date of hire.Obtain Injury Prevention Level One Course certification within six (6) months from date of hire.Obtain Injury Prevention Level Two Course certification within twelve (12) months from date of hire.
Maintain current CPR & First Aid certification or obtain within sixty (60) days of hire and maintain
throughout employment.Obtain Arizona Department Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance card within 90 days from date of hire.
Required to pass background check and fingerprint clearance as a condition of employment and must maintain
through duration of employment.Required to obtain a Tribal Operators permit. Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving
record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving record
must be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the
