Intake Counselor - PRN (Weekends)

Job Summary

Conducts and assists with admissions all incoming communications to BHS. Assesses the clinical appropriateness of potential patients. Reports to Intake Coordinator.

Essential Functions

Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, and safety standards.

Assesses the clinical appropriateness of a potential patient.

Notifies supervisor concerning admissions that do not meet the hospital financial policy criteria.

Communicates with physicians on call to determine if admission is necessary.

Coordinate the admission process with appropriate staff and submits all insurance information to Admissions and Utilization Review.

Supports and interprets hospitals Christian mission, philosophy and objective.

Maintains confidentiality of patients and other pertinent information.

Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops. Attends meetings as required.

Represents behavioral health services to referral sources, community agencies, social services agencies and others as requested.

Qualifications

A masters degree in counseling or social work or related field is required and a license or certification in these related fields is preferred. One year minimum experience in social work, intake, admissions, counseling, or other areas is required. Computer, photocopier, and fax skills is preferred. Must demonstrate ability to recognize patients individual needs based on medical conditions, age (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle aged, and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures. This position has been determined to have a low risk of occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
