Characteristicsof Position:

This isa graduate student practicum, internship, or field placement in a clinicalposition in a human services agency providing alcohol, drug abuse, mentalhealth or juvenile justice services. Therapist Interns provide appropriate assessment, therapy anddocumentation, working under supervision of the assignedfield instructor or designee.

Pre-requisite Requirements:

Currentlyenrolled in a graduate degree program in social work, counseling, psychology orother human services field and working under a formal learning contract orsimilar agreement with a university.

Quantityof Work Expected: Commensurate with level necessaryto fully meet obligations of learning contract.

Supervision: Thisposition does not provide supervision to others, and reports to the assignedfield instructor.

Scope ofResponsibilities:

Under supervision of the assignedfield instructor or designee, assess when admitting new clients, provideclinical services, maintain and prepare clinical charts, professionally communicatewith and provide consultations to parents/significant others.

Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Working undersupervision of the assigned field instructor or designee, adheres to regulatorybodies and licensing rules, guidelines and established protocols to carry outduties as established in the learning contract or similar agreement, incompliance with contract, licensure, accreditation, and certification relativeto the agency, program, service assignment and agency designated model fortreating persons with co-occurring mental and substance disorders.

Provideclinical services including, but not limited to individual, group and familytherapy, assessments, treatment plans and reviews, and discharge planning.

Attendscheduled interdisciplinary treatment team meeting or clinical supervisorysessions and discusses aspects of client?s care and progress (or lack of same);may participate in other meetings/events as assigned.

Observeclients for behavioral changes and progress in treatment, communicateempathically with clients regarding addiction, mental illness, medications andrecovery.

Conductsface to face interviews with clients to develop individual behavioral health ortreatment plans and reviews individual behavioral health treatment plans withassigned field instructor or designee.

Responsiblefor documenting services he/she directly provides.

Reportcrisis situations and treatment needs of clients to clinical personnel andsupervisor; recognize client's comprehensive needs and discusses with interdisciplinarytreatment team.
