Starting Salary:

Job Placement Specialist I (Bachelors) - $38,022 - $45,635

Job Placement Specialist II (Masters) - $42,452 -$51,001

Position Summary: Responsible for vocational rehabilitation activities which support consumers who want work adjustment training, job search and placement, and skill training for volunteer assignments, work experiences, part-time or full-time employment. Coordinate employment services, including development of community jobs, working with employers to ensure quality job placements, working with outside agencies and partnering to benefit the employment program. Cooperatively work with treatment sites to established mutual outcomes for the people we serve.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Responsible for development of competitive community jobs and skill-building activities needed to attain employment.
  2. Provide consistent vocational assessments to assist the people that we serve, to be successful in a job/jobs.
  3. Employment Specialist duties as required to identify appropriate programs and eligibility, as to ensure access for the people that we serve.
  4. Work closely with employers to coach people that we serve and provide appropriate interventions.
  5. Research and develop community contacts that help with appropriate job placements.
  6. Complete data/reporting pertaining to program measurements.
  7. Coordinate with clinical departments and therapist regarding vocational objectives.
  8. Find employment for a diverse population with a serious and persistent mental illness.
  9. Work in the community 60% of time.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements: Education/Experience

Vocational Counselor I

  • Bachelor degree in rehabilitation or related field; and,
  • One year of experience in a vocational rehabilitation setting or experience with specific duties of this position is preferred.

Vocational Counselor II

  • Masters degree in vocational rehabilitation or related field; with one year of experience in a vocational rehabilitation setting or experience with specific duties of this position is preferred.
  • Or, Bachelors degree in rehabilitation or related field and three years vocational experience, or experience related to specific job duties.

Certifications: Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner or willingness to obtain certification within one year.

SKILLS: Public relations and community organization skills. Demonstrated ability in program development. Ability to work with consumers with severe and persistent mental illness. Ability to give, receive and analyze information, formulate work plans, prepare written materials and articulate goals and action plans. Must understand people from all walks of life and be able to communicate effectively with them while being strength based. Good computer skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT TO BE USED: Computers, calculators, fax machines, copiers, telephone and a variety of other office/clerical equipment.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 40 pounds. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, the telephone and other office and/or clinical equipment. Ability to drive a car.

WORKING CONDITIONS: May require occasional evening or weekend hours. Must have valid drivers license to drive to consumer work sites, employer sites.
