This specific recruitment is for a Juvenile Court Counselor who will be working directly with the Juvenile Probation Specialized Caseload in the Apache Junction, Queen Creek, and San Tan Valley areas. The Specialized Caseload is designed to provide intensive individual and family counseling services to at-risk youth and their families in the community. The counselor in this position will closely work with a supervising field probation officer and surveillance officer to increase access to therapeutic interventions, behavior modification and parent skills building. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently and have scheduling flexibility to meet the needs of the families.

As a professional position in the Superior Court in Pinal County, Juvenile Court Services, this position requires appropriate state counselor licensing with the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners. Please apply if you have either independent licensure or the following provisional level of licensure, or have initiated action to obtain:

- Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) or,
- Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) or,

- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or,
- Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT) or,
- Licensed Associate Psychologist.

TYPICAL CLASSIFICATION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Conducts assessments and evaluations of juveniles and their families involved in the Juvenile Court System.
  • Provides individual, family, and group counseling to at-risk youth.
  • Formulates treatment plans and evaluates outcomes.
  • Participates in Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings and Child Family Team meetings.
  • Conducts parenting skills classes.
  • Conducts therapy on an individual and group basis.
  • Consults with staff and participates in the development and monitoring of individual behavior plans.
  • Participates in crisis intervention.
  • Provides consultation, education, and training to staff and other groups, including parents and other community members.
  • Researches and implements Best Practice treatment modalities.
  • Coordinates services with other agencies.
  • Maintains written records.
  • Prepares and provides educational and informational materials for community distribution.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted County information.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  1. Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) or,
  2. Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) or,
  3. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or,
  4. Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT) or,
  5. Licensed Associate Psychologist.
  • Masters Degree in Counseling, Psychology, and/or Social Work. Provisional licensure with Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners within 60 days of entering on duty, or proof that efforts are already underway to secure proper licensing.
  • Arizona LPC, LMFT, or LCSW required within two (2) years of hire (supervision will be provided).
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Valid Arizona driver's license upon hire.
Additional Requirements:
  • CPR certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • May be subject to irregular work hours/schedules.
  • Will be subject to immediate callout when an emergency occurs.
  • Must submit to fingerprint and background examinations.
  • Maintain required licenses and certifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years of experience providing direct therapy to youth ages 8-17.
  • Independent level of licensure through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of psychotherapy and various treatment modalities.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology relating to mental and behavioral health treatment and substance abuse.
  • Knowledge of addiction and the needs, attitudes, and behavior patterns of drug and alcohol involved individuals, groups and families.
  • Knowledge of conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
  • Knowledge of principles of human behavior and child development.
  • Ability to interview and collect information effectively in multiple settings.
  • Ability to establish and maintain the confidence and cooperation of clients and co-workers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to audiences of various social, cultural, ethnic, educational, and economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to use electronic medical records, type in Word, and maintain electronic documentation.
  • Ability to effectively use video conferencing platforms.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Independent body mobility to stand, walk, bend, and sit for prolonged periods of time and/or drive a vehicle. Manual dexterity to reach, and grasp; manual dexterity to hand write or use computer keyboard; vision sufficient to see/read; hear and speak to communicate with customers in person and over the phone. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed inside the confinement of a correctional facility and/or office setting. Will be required to drive throughout the state.
