ACDHS uses an integrated Two-Generation (2Gen) approach to address all of the basic human services needs of the entire family unit. The 2Gen approach begins with a mindset focused on family-centered program design, continues with the alignment of services and resources within the department as well as across multiple organizations, resulting in coordinated services to children and adults together (family) in order to create long term stability and sustainability.

The 2Gen approach builds well-being for families by focusing equally and intentionally on high-quality services in five areas of focus: early childhood education, adult education and employment pathways, economic security, health and well-being and social capital. This approach will help us achieve our core mission of breaking the generational cycle of poverty, preventing neglect and abuse and building strong communities.

ACDHS has openings for Social Caseworker Associate positions working for the Child and Adult Protection Services (CAPS) Division. The Child and Adult Protection Services Division provides protective services to children and teens, as well as foster care, adoption, adolescent services, teen parent programs and other services that help create strong, effective families.

The Kinship Navigation Assistant is responsible for providing support to Caseworkers B and C while gaining skills and knowledge to successfully attain certification to manage cases in a trainee role.

This is a temporary grant funded position with benefits.

Duties

Assists with conducting assessments; placing children and coordinating parent/child visits.

Assists with identifying appropriate and available services for vulnerable adults, families and children, providing crisis response and documenting case plan information and activity.

Assists with information gathering as it pertains to active assessments or permanency work on behalf of a vulnerable adult, family or children. This includes gathering and consolidating historical and background information.

Assists in making collateral contacts with community resources such as law enforcement, school personnel and medical personnel to obtain additional information, coordinate services, or secure their assistance

Attends court hearings and/or staffing meetings with schools, mental health facilities, child or adult protection review teams, and other professionals involved with the family members with the primary Caseworker.

Provides a variety of ancillary assignments as needed including preparing and maintaining client records, completing required forms and reports, and entering data and some case contacts into Trails or CAPS.

Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

Excellent organizational skills.

Ability to analyze and interpret governmental and legal regulations.

Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to court, managers, customers, other agencies, co-workers, and the general public via fax, telephone, and email.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and state and county computer systems.

Ability to learn various applications.

Ability to establish and maintain harmonious professional relationships with other employees, outside agencies and customers.

Ability to work in a high volume, high stress environment.

Experience and/or knowledge of the Two-Generation Approach.

Demonstrate knowledge of family engagement strategies and interviewing principles.

Strong interpersonal skills to build partnerships.

Ability to work collaboratively with all ACDHS programs, staff, and existing community partners.

Requirements

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in one of the human behavioral science fields*.

* Accepted Human Behavioral Science degrees are defined as: Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling and/or Child Development.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be able to successfully complete the appropriate Colorado Pre-Service Training Academy program during the first year of employment with ACDHS.

The expectation for a Social Caseworker Associate is to have acquired the skills and knowledge needed to successfully apply for a Social Caseworker B position within the first 24 months.

Supplemental Information

Must pass a criminal pre-employment background and motor vehicle check and a post-employment fingerprint check.

The salary grade listed is the full salary range for the Kinship Navigation Assistant position. Please note that the hiring salary will typically be near the lower end of the pay range listed.
