Job Description

Oversees and coordinates the operational activities in teaching laboratories, lecture halls, and exercise laboratories ensuring that the equipment and general facilities and teaching facilities are maintained, experiments and demonstrations are set up and functioning properly, and that teaching assistants know how to operate the equipment. Oversees physical activity in instructional facilities. Assists with and performs duties related to all CHS facilities items.

 

Salary Range

$37,600 - $50,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

·       Oversee and coordinate equipment inventory, maintenance, calibration, and ordering, as well as lab-related space management, across labs conducted in SDFC, Health North, and all other CHS space.

·       Manage lab safety and biosafety requirements/disclosure procedures, including ensuring proper safety protocols in the labs, update standard operating procedures and train faculty, TAs, and staff in standard operating procedures as needed.

·       Train PhD TA's, GSAs, FAs, AAs, and other instructors on the lab equipment (e.g., proper use, calibration) at the beginning of each semester.

·       Keep relevant software updated and stay up-to-date with licensure/cloud contracts, inform Degree/Program directors in advance when contracts need to be renewed.

·       Communicate regularly with Degree/Program Directors, faculty, and TAs/GSAs on issues related to equipment usage and updates.

·       Assist with lab set-ups, when requested, including equipment set-up, checking for charge/battery needs, ensuring equipment is operating properly.

·       Assist with all CHS facilities related items and act as backup for Business Operations Manager.

·       Work with lab and facility equipment representatives to repair equipment or coordinate repairs, as needed.

·       Assist in design for construction of new or modifications of existing facilities.

·       Monitor building facilities to ensure things are functioning correctly and recommend corrective action as needed.

·       Receive, respond to, address, and act on all facilities and laboratory related tickets: requests, inquiries, concerns.

·       Answer phone calls and respond to e-mail correspondence from faculty, staff, and students.

·       Identify and share appropriate facilities, technical, or academic resource(s) to facilitate timely and satisfactory resolution.

·       Monitor facility and laboratory projects with regards to progress and cost.

·       Inventory; requisition and restock supplies for facilities; laboratories; lecture theaters.

·       Maintain facility, laboratory utilization, and equipment maintenance records.

·       Create and maintain facilities databases and programs and develop reports.

·       Maintain organization in all storage, facilities, and activity rooms.

·       Transport laboratory and facilities equipment.\\

·       Coordinate/assist with room scheduling and key/card access across all CHS locations.

·       Serve as the UTO representative for the classroom and lab spaces as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND one year laboratory activities experience; OR, Five years of laboratory activities or related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications

·       Demonstrated knowledge of computerized or automated systems.

·       Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of laboratory operation.

·       Experience in supervising and coordinating the work of others.

·       Demonstrated knowledge of facilities operations.

 

Working Environment

·       Use basic math.

·       Deliver presentations.

·       Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.

·       Ability to clearly communicate.

·       Use office equipment, i.e. printers, copiers, fax machines, telephones, calculator.

·       Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, may include/subject to resolution of conflicts.

·       Use of software/computer equipment for extended periods of time.

·       Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze and report data/results of tests conducted.

·       Use an ASU or personal vehicle to travel to different campuses. 

·       Conduct lab tests using appropriate equipment and protocols.

·       Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds.

·       Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

·       Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.

·       Supervise students.

·       Occasional local travel may be required for trainings, site visits, and meetings.

·       Occasional work on the weekends as needed.
