Overview

Under limited supervision, performs and coordinates complex laboratory duties in the necropsy laboratories at Lovelace Biomedical. The Laboratory Manager will organize and coordinate studies in addition to documenting laboratory work and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies. The work is performed in a highly regulated environment and compliance with documentation standards is required.

The Laboratory Manager must leverage experience from necropsy procedures in small and large animals, a variety of software packages (Microsoft Office, Provantis), knowledge of anatomy and animal science, and overall study coordination. The role also actively participates in the refinement of existing techniques and procedures and development and implementation of new procedures, including authorship of applicable standard operating procedures (SOPs) and coordination of necessary training. These tasks will involve both in-vivo and in-vitro procedures while exercising judgment in the collection and processing on samples such as blood, serum, plasma, tissue and urine. The Lab Manager must have the willingness and ability to lead by example and will work with a wide variety of animal species and possess unique and sophisticated technical skills.

Qualifications

Requires a bachelors degree in biology, science, animal science or similar discipline as well as five (5) years of directly related experience with three (3) years management experience directing multiple technical personnel in a laboratory environment; or equivalent combination of directly related education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.

Requires a high level of technical expertise and training in pathology operations for research and investigational studies (including safety/toxicity and efficacy studies).

Must have superior professional-level written and verbal communication skills; a high degree of professionalism, excellent judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability in managing a wide variety of complex tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines is required. Must have the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Preferred computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.

This position may involve work inside the ABSL3 facility which may require vaccinations or immunizations. Candidates must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and wear a respirator. A Post-offer physical and background check are required.

Ability to obtain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.
