Overview

Lovelace Biomedical, a not for profit research center dedicated to the advancement of human health located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as a Laboratory Supervisor in the Microbial analysis group. Under limited supervision, the laboratory supervisor will supervise lower level employees, performs and coordinates complex laboratory duties. The Laboratory Supervisor will organize and coordinate studies in addition to documenting laboratory work and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies.

Additional duties may include acting as an internal subject matter expert and limited scope client interaction to assist management or director study with execution or resolution of study issues. The Laboratory Supervisor may review, perform quality control correct and give guidance to director reports.

The laboratory supervisor may author or co-author methods, SOPs and continuing scientist reports in their area of expertise. The work is performed in a highly regulated environment and compliance with documentation standards is required, will perform all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in a scientific area or with comparable course work and a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience is required.

For individuals currently employed by Lovelace Biomedical, an additional 2 years of directly-related Institute employment may be substituted for the supervisorial requirements.

Must have a demonstrated ability to successfully perform a variety of routine laboratory procedures using standard laboratory equipment and instruments.

Requires strong professional-level written and verbal communication skills, excellent problem-solving and decision making skills, excellent judgement and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Must have the ability to lead, supervise and train staff and students. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in a wet laboratory environment. Will operate standard laboratory equipment and will frequently stand, walk, sit, perform lab- and desk-based computer tasks, perform laboratory techniques requiring grasping/pipetting/hand dexterity, perform repetitive motions and occasionally lift objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. Will wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator. May work in close proximity to an environment containing research animals and may be required to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations.

Salary
