DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Land Surveyor Manager is responsible for technical oversight of all land surveying functions within the Gila
River Indian Community. The incumbent is required to review and check for accuracy of all surveys prepared by
other surveyors for projects on Community land. After validating the accuracy of all surveyor data the incumbent
stamps all legal surveys performed by the survey staff with the seal of a Registered Land Surveyor in the State of
Arizona and the seal of a Certified Federal Surveyor (CFedS). This position provides supervision of a land
surveying team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for technical oversight of all land surveying functions within the Gila River Indian Community.
May perform legal surveys of Community projects including roads, easements, agricultural properties,
agricultural leases, or any other Community activity that requires a legal survey with proper paperwork.
Review and check for accuracy all surveys prepared by other surveyors for projects on Community land.
Maintain an archive of all surveys performed on Community lands, both in reproducible linen, plastic or paper
and in Auto CAD or other accepted computer format used by the Community.Plan, develop, coordinate and direct a number of highly diversified and complex survey operations in
conjunction with engineering investigations associated with the design, construction, operation and
monitoring on the Gila River Indian Community.Coordinate survey activities according to priorities established by the Community Council and Administration
and revise survey program accordingly based on manpower and in response to time requirements.Supervise Civil Engineering Technicians responsible for analyzing and evaluating survey data, maintaining
databases, editing and transferring CAD drawings, plots, and graphs by electronic methods; Supervise the
Records Specialist responsible for recording survey data produced and the direct communication methods
with the public on survey matters.Direct and supervise land surveys in the restoration of original surveys and boundaries and the establishment
of new boundaries and property lines.Supervise and evaluate Survey Party Chiefs and Survey Technicians responsible for analyzing and evaluating
survey data, maintaining databases, editing and transferring CAD drawings, plots, and graphs by electronic
methods.Train survey staff in surveying techniques with the goal of qualifying each to become a Registered Land
Surveyor in the State of Arizona.After validating the accuracy of all survey data, stamps all legal surveys performed by the survey staff with
the seal of a Registered Land Surveyor in the State of Arizona and the seal if a Certified Federal Surveyor
(CFedS).Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITY:Knowledge of surveying theories, principles, and practices, methods, techniques, instrumentation and
equipment utilized in surveying as it relates to civil engineering projects.Knowledge of survey concepts, laws, and regulations, rules, or evidence and their applications to identify and
establish boundaries and monuments associated with Community projects.Knowledge of concepts, principles, relevant mathematics and coordination of project systems together with
the necessary skills to understand and perform geodetic, hydrographic aerial and photogram metric surveys.
Knowledge of GIS Auto Computer Aided Design (CAD) operations and relational database operations.
Knowledge of principles of management, supervision and performance evaluation.Knowledge of principles and practices of program and project management.Knowledge of and skill in interpersonal relationships and skill in oral communications to present information
related to Gila River Indian Community survey work.Skill in operating GIS and associated peripherals.Skill in using complex optical and electronic instruments and equipment utilized in the field.Skill in preparing charts, schedules, graphs, maps, and similar objects.Skill in reading, analyzing and interpreting legal descriptions and maps.Ability to establish and implement goals and objectives.Ability to effectively plan, organize, direct, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the work of subordinates.
Ability to communicate effectively; express ideas clearly, orally and in writing.Ability to work in an office and field environment where field time is spent driving a vehicle, walking,
climbing, standing and occasionally carrying survey instruments and equipment. [Field conditions may
consist of extreme temperatures, rugged desert, and mountainous terrain with dangerous plants and wildlife,
high density traffic situations, inherent noise, and safety hazard problems]Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials
and the general public.Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a drug-free workplace.REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Land Survey, Geography,
Planning, GIS, Architecture or closely related field and four (4) years professional land surveying experience
and which includes two (2) years supervisory experience; OrAssociate7s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Land Survey, Geography,
Planning, GIS, Architecture or closely related field and six (6) years professional land surveying experience
and which includes three (3) years supervisory experience; OrNine (9) years professional land surveying experience and which includes four (4) years supervisory
experience.ADDITIONAL RE ZUIREMENTS:Currently licensed as a Registered Land Surveyor in the state of Arizona or ability to obtain within two (2)
years of employment.
0 Current Certified Federal Surveyor (CFedS) or ability to obtain within three (3) years of employment.
0 Required to obtain a Tribal Operator7s permit. Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving
record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving
record must be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of
submission of the application.
