Position Description
Assigns and supervises the work of custodians and performs custodial duties involving the cleaning and care of buildings. Supervises a small group of custodians.

Major/Essential Functions

• Communicates problems and solutions to supervisors.
• Assign and direct subordinates in their duties and tasks to be performed and oversee that all work is completed correctly and responsibilities are fulfilled. Perform all facets of cleaning duties as well to ensure completion.
• Daily checks status of supplies in all subordinates' assigned areas and distributes the quantity needed to restock each assigned person's area. Maintains inventory lists of supplies needed and notifies Senior Lead Custodian when an order must be made for supplies or equipment.
• Maintains and cleans areas as assigned. Monitors restrooms, public areas, auditoriums, elevators and other spaces as needed to maintain good appearance.
• Conducts other related duties as assigned and necessary, or when directed by supervisors.
• Perform the more difficult aspects of custodial work such as carpet extraction, floor burnishing, terrazzo tile sealer application.
• Helps verify employee time sheets with supervisor. Substitutes for any absent employees and assumes responsibility. Provides backup support for Senior Lead Custodian and assumes duties and responsibilities when supervisor is absent.
• Properly instructs and trains subordinates in correct use of equipment, techniques, job obligations, and proper safety practices to prevent personal or property injuries.
• Answer calls and pages from supervisors and employees. Responds to emergency situations as needed and required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prefer experience gained from providing custodial services at a medical facility of an institution of higher education.
• Previous supervisory experience is highly desired.
• Education and training can be substituted for previous work experience on a year by year basis.
