Definition

Under general supervision of the Custodial Supervisor, oversees the day-to-day custodial work activities for Community facilities. Supervises, assigns, and monitors work activities for a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and minor repairs for community facilities. This position is treated as an FLSA non-exempt, considered a DRIVING position subject to working on call and weekend hours.

Examples of Tasks

Tasks:
1. Acts as Lead Custodian for custodial workers in the department. Plans and assigns daily work activities to subordinate workers. Reviews work in progress and ensure projects are completed within assigned timeframes and in accordance with established standards, guidelines, and plans. Trains new/less experienced workers in procedures/techniques for completion of all assigned projects and tasks. Responds to workers questions regarding work assignments.

2. Assists and monitors custodial workers in performing a variety of general cleaning tasks, including vacuuming and steam cleaning carpets, scrubbing, mopping floors, stripping, waxing, and polishing floors, washing windows and equipment, dusting and polishing furniture, and cleaning/sanitizing restroom facilities.

3. Oversees the mixing of cleaning chemicals and solvents. Ensures that workers are trained on proper methods/procedures for mixing cleaning materials and the hazards associated with improper use.

4. Maintains an inventory of cleaning equipment, tools, supplies, and materials at the assigned facility. Picks up and delivers items for other staff, including supplies and materials.

5. Responds to emergency situations and performs other tasks and special assignments as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of equipment and supplies used for cleaning work.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance methods and practices, including floor stripping and waxing.
  • Knowledge of equipment use and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of employee supervision and training.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff and the public.
  • Skill in following oral and written instructions.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff and the public.
  • Skill in planning, scheduling, and assigning the work of subordinate workers to ensure projects are completed in accordance with established standards, guidelines, time frames, and in a safe manner.
  • Skill in supervising and training subordinate staff.

  • Ability to pickup and move objects weighing at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders or steps, and bend or stoop repeatedly or continually.
Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience: Graduation from high school or GED, and minimum of two (2) to three (3) years custodial experience, or a closely related field, and one (1) year experience leading or supervising a work crew. Must be knowledgeable of procedures for the safe use of cleaning chemicals and solvents.

  • For enrolled Community members without a GED, must obtain a GED. Requires participation in the HR GED Program and successful completion of the Arizona state certified exam in order to continue employment with SRPMIC.
Equivalency - Any equivalent combination of training and experience that would enable the candidate to satisfactorily perform and meet the duties and responsibilities required may be considered in meeting the stated minimum qualifications. Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Drivers License.
