DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
Under general supervision of the Domestic Violence Shelter Coordinator, the Lead Domestic Violence Shelter
Specialist is responsible for providing a therapeutic environment and maintaining a home-like atmosphere and
providing daily care, training, supervision, and assumes day-to-day responsibilities of working with the residents
at the Domestic Violence Shelter. The positions provide advocacy, education, and crisis intervention for victims
of domestic violence and their children who are residents of the shelter, as well as callers who contact the facility
when there is a crisis. Serves as the acting supervisor in the absence of the Domestic Violence Shelter Coordinator.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :Serves as acting supervisor in the absence of the Domestic Violence Shelter Coordinator; oversees work
schedules to ensure adequate staff for facility; maintain and review all appropriate paperwork as speci?ed in
program policies and procedures, including documents of incidents, contact sheet, and activities logs.Maintains program structure by following program rules and procedures; assist with implementation of target
goals and transition plans.Works directly with residents by answering crisis hotline, providing supportive listening and assist with new
arrivals; assists in meeting the household needs of the residents; assists new residents with orientation to the
facility.Provides supportive listening, helps resolve con?ict and assists residents to understand shelter guidelines;
supports residents in daily maintenance/cleaning of their rooms and common areas and maintains a healthy
environment condition in the home.Responsible for following a planned schedule of events, duties, and activities.
Maintain program structure by following program rules and procedures.Model appropriate interaction and responsible behavior for residents, including confidentiality, attentiveness
to house rules, cleanliness, politeness, con?ict resolution, and respect.Perform other related duties as assigned.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:Knowledge of the Gila River Indian Community and its laws, practices, and cultures.Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.Be of good moral character and have good physical and emotional health.Ability to effectively plan, supervise, and coordinate the work of others.Ability to act professionally and efficiently in crisis situation.Ability to learn, be non-judgmental and work well with others in a team environment.Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.Ability to work cooperatively with other employees, elected officials, clients, agencies, and the public.
Ability to effectively use computers and related computer application software.Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.
Ability to pass a criminal background check as mandated by PL. 101-630.REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:Associates degree from an accredited college or university in Social Services, Human Services or a closely related
field and two (2) years experience in a human services or residential setting which included working with trauma
survivors and crisis intervention; and which included one (1) year supervisory experience.Bachelors degree preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
0 Required to pass a background check and fingerprint clearance as a condition of employment and must
continue to maintain throughout duration of employment. Background checks are required for positions that
involve regular contact with or control over Community Children in accordance with The Indian Child
Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, 25 U.S.C. Sections 3201 through 3210 and C.F.R. Part 63
and positions that have regular contact with the Elderly.
0 Maintain current CPR & First Aid Certification.
0 Current TB skin test.
0 Be able to withstand the physical and emotional stress of carrying on responsibilities for domestic violence
victims.
0 Required to obtain a Tribal Operators permit. Valid state drivers license with a current proof of driving
record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit. Proof of driving
record must be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of
submission of the application.
0 Required mandatory reporter pursuant to Title 7, Chapter 2 (7.205), B.
0 Required to attend Title 7 Mandatory Reporting training on a yearly basis.Supervisory, Salaried Position
