Overview

Under limited supervision, the Lead Facilities Technician will be responsible for planning, scheduling and servicing the facility, utility systems operations and maintenance activities. The Lead Facilities Technician will service, maintain and repair commercial/industrial (HVAC) air handling equipment as well as service and repair commercial refrigeration equipment. Perform architectural work; renovations, painting, carpentry, building repairs and preventive maintenance to building structures. Supervises Maintenance Workers in the performance of their daily activities.

Qualifications

Requires an Associates degree or a certificate in a technology or trade in electronics, electrical, heating and air conditioning or related field; and 6 years of directly-related maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from with comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained. Must have 2 years of supervisory experience. Trades licenses/certifications; NM boiler operator (BO I/ II), EPA Universal certification, electrical, plumbing licenses, HVAC-R will be considered a plus for this position.

Must have demonstrated skills in general maintenance and be able to troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of maintenance problems. This position requires the ability to complete associated paperwork and work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Must be highly motivated with good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Requires computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.

Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing and pulling heavy equipment, bending, stooping, climbing, carrying, outdoor work and working alone for long periods of time with or without accommodation. Must be able to wear a respirator and any other required personal protective equipment.

A Post-offer background check and the ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.

Individual must be willing to be on call after normal work hours. The schedule will be 7:00PM to 3:30AM Monday thru Friday.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in a variety of settings including office and laboratory environments, as well as in outdoor areas. Will frequently stand, walk, sit, kneel, crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, etc.), reach/work overhead, frequently lift/carry/push/pull heavy objects that weigh up to 50 pounds and perform desk-based computer tasks. Will wear personal protective equipment which may include a respirator. Will work in close proximity to an environment containing research animals and may be required to work in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious agents are present which may require vaccinations.

Salary
