Position Summary

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center invites applicants for a full-time faculty position as Lecturer II. The assignment will be through the Division of Community Behavioral Health. The position will include clinical work, consultation, training and scholarly activities with a focus on suicide prevention in New Mexico American Indian communities.

Responsibilities for the position include clinical consultation to departmental programs addressing American Indian behavioral health, teaching resident didactics on diversity, equity and inclusion, and providing community education on clinical topics related to American Indian behavioral health. Certification in teaching Mental Health First Aide and experience in cultural adaptations of evidence-based curricula are preferred. Experience providing education to diverse audiences is preferred. Successful candidate should have experience with fiscal and contractual oversight and a commitment to work with individuals from diverse communities.

More specifically, roles and responsibilities of this position will be as follows. This individual will have oversight of all clinical activities delivered through the statewide clearinghouse for American Indian suicide prevention, Honoring Native Life, teach psychiatry residency didactics on American Indian culture, and provide oversight for clinical care delivered via telehealth in partnership with the Indian Health Service.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in social work or counseling
  • Licensed in New Mexico
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience delivering behavioral health care in American Indian communities
  • Experience in cultural adaptations of evidence-based curricula
  • Experience with fiscal and contractual oversight
  • Educational experience with diverse communities and trainees
  • Certification in Mental Health First Aid
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
