Job Description
Definition
Under general supervision from the Community Recreation Services Director, the Librarian directs and manages operation of the Tribal Library within the Community. This job class is treated as FLSA Non- Exempt.

Special Requirement: Due to the confidential and sensitive nature of this position, successful completion of an extensive background investigation is required.

Examples of Tasks
1. Library Operation & Management:
- Directs, supervises and conducts operations of the Tribal Library; supervises library staff.
- May evaluate assigned staff and/ or volunteers, address employee concerns and problems, counsel, discipline and complete performance appraisals.
- Orders Library Materials through book dealer and catalogs, including but not limited to print materials, audio and visual materials
- Maintains updated knowledge of new library materials.
- Evaluates and maintains library services related to circulation, services and programs
- Catalogs and processes library materials, properly labels and shelves materials. Recommends policies and procedures to facilitate cataloging.
- Assists patrons in locating books and helps them acquire books through the Inter-Library Loan Program.
- Maintains statistical records of Library and prepares quarterly reports; compiles and submits statistical reports for the Tribal Library.
- Supervise, plans and conducts library related programs for children and young adults, which may include story hour, book clubs, literacy programs, and digital literacy
- Sends out overdue notices and collects fees.
- Sets up equipment for events sponsored by the Library.
- Submits budget requests and monitors expenditures from operating budget.
- Keeps accurate, up to date work records, produces and compiles reports and statistics as requested.
- Develops, interprets and enforces Library policies, procedures and regulations for internal and external customers.
- Verifies material orders for proper ordering information and monitors assigned selection budget allocations.
- Evaluates, collects and identifies materials that need to be replaced, added, or discarded.
- Promotes the use of library resources through special programs and activities, instructional tours, and community contacts.

- Knowledge of the culture, customs, traditions, history and government of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
- Knowledge of methods and practices of Library management and operations
- Knowledge of policies and procedures for book and material acquisition, purchasing, budget controls and personnel management.
- Knowledge of methods and practices of book publishing and distribution.
- Skills in work management and work leadership
- Skills establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with library patrons, Tribal and media representatives, and members of the Community.
- Skills in provide leadership including planning, coordinating and conducting staff meetings.
- Skills evaluating staff performance and analyzing program effectiveness.
- Skill promoting program objectives, developing measurable outcomes and providing services in accordance with program objectives.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work non-standard work hours as required by program needs.
- Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment including photocopiers, FAX machines and personal computers in order to fulfill job requirements.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare appropriate budgets or reports as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education & Experience: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Library Science or closely related field and two (2) years full-time library management work experience in the Library field.
- One (1) year full time supervisory or management work experience is required.
- Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of experience and education that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered when filling the position.

Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.
