DEFINITION: Under general supervision, plans, assigns and leads assigned staff in the maintenance and repair of fabrication of metals and related equipment for Sunnyside Unified School District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TASKS:
Schedules construction projects and prioritizes and assigns work orders to assigned staff
Supervises and reviews for accuracy the completed work of assigned staff and contractors
Inventories and orders supplies
Trains and instructs assigned staff in the performance of work duties
Responds to calls for routine and emergency maintenance assistance
Communicates with district staff in the assessment and coordination of repairs
Completes work order reports
Fabricates and installs special equipment such as security screens, fire exit windows, handrails, gates and guard rails, using cutting torch, arc welder and bender; determines appropriate welding techniques for application to a wide variety of metals
Determines if items can be repaired or recommends their replacement
Determines method of repair and materials needed within established expenditure limits
Fixes broken window welds
Repairs vandalism or storm damage to buildings and grounds
Performs preventative maintenance of assigned equipment and systems
Repairs or assists with other trades maintenance activities
Calculates amounts and places orders for construction project materials
Contacts vendors according to procurement procedures
Performs related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
Knowledge of maintenance manuals and maintenance techniques.
Knowledge of maintenance equipment.
Knowledge of safety procedures and policies.
Skill in the safe operation of power tools, hand tools, saws and other maintenance equipment.
Skill in supervising and delegating work and duties.
Skill in following verbal and written communication skills in English.
Skill in reading and comprehending written/graphic and oral instructions.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Skill in preparing reports.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments. Work requires frequent driving, standing, walking, bending, and lifting. May be exposed to moving equipment, hand tools, extreme weather conditions, toxic fumes and chemicals, harmful dust, air particles and infectious diseases.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Five (5) years of journey level trades maintenance experience in the Welding field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must possess an AZ Drivers License.
Additional certifications may also be required as specified by the District.
Depending on the needs of the district, some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both Spanish and English as a condition of employment.
Salary Grade: 16 Hourly Pay: $16.28 Hours per Day: 8 Days in Contract: 260
