Job Description
Job Title: Maintenance Technician II Exemption Status: Exempt
Status: Full Time
Department/Location: St. Mark the Evangelist Parish / Oro Valley, AZ
Primary Function: Under the direction of the Pastor, bookkeeper, or other assigned manager is responsible for working independently in performing a variety of complex maintenance duties in a parish. The Employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching both academically and behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, "Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received." (Eph. 4:1)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform in support the Churchs spiritual and pastoral mission
  • Shall abide by Catholic principles in the employees professional and private life, and shall govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral structure
  • Work independently in a leadership role in the performance of general facility and grounds maintenance including cleaning and maintenance of Church, school, or other facilities
  • Set up/break down tables and chairs for Parish activities
  • Maintain parish equipment including kitchen, restrooms, and other facilities in a functional condition; recommend and oversee replacement of equipment as necessary
  • Be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of machines, tools, equipment and other maintenance and procedures
  • Maintain records of maintenance performed as necessary
  • Assist in issuing and maintain inventory records on tools, equipment, and supplies
  • Assist in issuing and maintain inventory of keys/key fobs/alarm codes/and door codes
  • Secure Building and occupants by maintaining alarm and fire protection devices
  • Maintain security of buildings, equipment, tools, and other assets of the parish
  • Regularly inspect all physical plants; make recommendations for improvement to the Supervisor.
  • Assist in preparation of all applicable contracts for maintenance and upkeep of facilities and present for approval
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in the grounds and buildings
  • Maintain cleanliness of Holy Water Font using basic pool chemistry
  • Assist in maintaining an adequate inventory and accounting of cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Comply with chemical handling laws and occupational safety regulations as required; maintain a safe working environment
  • Manage the facility within budget; make recommendations for continuous improvements in assigned areas
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift 45 lbs or as required in a normal maintenance environment.
Required Activities: Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, lifting and climbing ladders up to and including 24 ft. extension ladders.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church; if a baptized Catholic must be in full communion with the Catholic Church
  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written; excellent human relations and interpersonal skills
  • Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parishioners, and the general public
  • Must be a self-starter; well organized; perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is a must at all times; ability to travel locally as required
  • Proficiency in computer technology to include word-processing, spreadsheets, internet and e-mail
  • Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance
  • Ability to successfully pass a background, criminal history, and credit history check
  • A thorough knowledge of the use of the tools and equipment associated with general maintenance
  • A thorough knowledge of heating and cooling equipment, small appliance maintenance; plumbing and fixtures; and electricity
  • Be available for emergency callouts as necessary after hours and on weekends
  • Possess a valid Arizona drivers license
Education and Experience:
  • High School graduate or equivalent and 3 years of experience in a maintenance or similar position
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in the use of the tools and equipment associated with general maintenance
  • Experience in maintaining and minor repairs of electrical outlets, switches, fixtures, and ballasts; heating, venting, and cooling equipment (HVAC); small appliances; plumbing and plumbing fixtures; door and window locksets; door and window hardware; and roofing. Experience in the following areas is a plus: carpentry, welding, and soldering
  • Basic Knowledge of irrigation drip systems
Other/Preferred Skills:
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred
