    TITLE: Cement Mason/Welding Technician II

    CLASSIFICATION: Maintenance Department Classified Hourly

    REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor

    SUMMARY: As a member of the maintenance department, the cement mason/welder will install and repair concrete, block, and fencing at District buildings and check playground equipment for safety.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Operate equipment to dig, grade, and backfill ditches, and to remove cement slabs and sections for repairs and installations.
    2. Construct forms, mix and pour concrete, and finish to specifications.
    3. Assist with repair and construction projects involving welding iron grids and bars for windows and playground equipment.
    4. Repair irrigation systems and valve boxes.
    5. Check playground equipment and backstops for safety.
    6. Repair and maintain playground equipment.
    7. Assist with asphalt repair and replacement.
    8. Attend in-service meetings.
    9. Assist with maintenance and repair of header gates for irrigation systems.
    10. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION:
    High school diploma or equivalent.
    Trade school and or specialized training in cement/welding.

    LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
    Arizona Class 4 drivers license with a good driving record.

    EXPERIENCE:
    Minimum three-years of related work experience.

    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
    • Knowledge and experience with masonry equipment and tools.
    • Knowledge and experience with welding equipment and tools.
    • Experience in reading and working with building drawings and project plans.
    • Ability to bend, climb, crawl, kneel, lift and carry 75 pounds, and push and pull 200 pounds using a dolly.
    • Knowledge of English required to read and interpret schedules, memos, instructions on tools and equipment, and to communicate with co-workers.
    • Knowledge of safety procedures and ability to maintain a safe working environment.
    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    The working environment includes exposure to dust, dirt, seasonal high temperatures, fumes from welding, and noise and vibration from machinery.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month year classified hourly salary schedule, employee benefits in accordance with Board policies.

    EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of classified staff.
