    CLASSIFICATION: Maintenance Department Classified Hourly Salary Schedule

    REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor

    SUMMARY: As a member of maintenance department, the carpenter will provide skills necessary to make, remodel, and repair cabinets, workstations, bookcases, and other carpentry related projects.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Build and install cabinets, bookcases, shelving, and similar units, using power tools and equipment as necessary.
    2. Construct or renovate classroom and office walls including hanging, texturing and repairing sheet rock.
    3. Install and repair ceiling tiles, dry wall, and Formica.
    4. Hang solid case, fire-rated doors with steel doorjambs.
    5. Do general construction and remodeling work.
    6. Estimate costs of requests.
    7. Order and pick up building materials necessary for approved jobs and projects.
    8. Maintain standards conducive to a clean, effective and efficient woodworking shop.
    9. Attend inservice meetings.
    10. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION:
    High school diploma or equivalency.
    Trade school and/or specialized training in carpentry.

    LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
    Arizona Class 4 drivers license with good driving record.

    EXPERIENCE:
    Three-years experience in cabinetmaking and general construction.
    Experience with blueprints and construction sketches.

    SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES:
    • Proven knowledge and expertise of a journeyman carpenter working with wood and other building materials and hardware.
    • Knowledge of the principals of construction, carpentry, and cabinet making.
    • Skills using lathes, planes, joiners, band saws, sanding and other woodworking equipment.
    • Knowledge of safety procedures and ability to maintain a safe working environment.
    • Knowledge of English required to read and interpret schedules, memos, instructions on tools and equipment and communicate with co-workers.
    • Able to bend, lift and carry 50 pounds, climb, crawl, and kneel.

    WORKING CONDITIONS: The working environment includes exposure to dust and noise and vibration of machinery.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month year, beginning salary Classified Hourly Salary Schedule, employee benefits in accordance with Board policies.

    EVALUATION: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of classified staff.
