Status: Full-Time (Overtime may be required)

Position Overview

Assists with the maintenance and repair of all AHS facility's plumbing, heating, cooling and electrical systems. Keeps premises safe and comfortable for the animals, the public and employees. Also must maintain departmental vehicles and equipment. Communicates with vendors, contractors and suppliers. Conducts preventative facilities maintenance for all AHS properties. May be asked to come in after hours to assist with emergencies.

Essential Functions

  • Continually monitor entire facility for needed replacement, maintenance, preventative maintenance or repair.
  • Keep departmental vehicles clean and perform routine maintenance.
  • Clean and clear drains, sinks, toilets and unplug pipes.
  • Ensure plumbing fixtures are functioning properly.
  • Pick up materials and supplies as needed for various construction and/or repair projects.
  • Deal with public, vendors and suppliers in acquisition of materials and supplies.
  • Obtain materials and supplies within budget parameters.
  • Process requests for repair, maintenance or small construction projects for all departments.
  • Design and build shelving, stands, tables and other items as needed or requested by departments.
  • Pick up donated items that can be used for building or facility improvements and provide appropriate acknowledgment to donors.
  • Able to work well with minimal supervision, prioritize work order requests and follow procedures.
  • Be available for general assistance for all departments.
  • Respond quickly in the event of an emergency, notify appropriate personnel and follow safety protocol.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications / Licenses:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Valid driver's license

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

Language Able to speak, read, write and understand English. Spanish language helpful.

Mathematical Basic

Technical Comprehensive knowledge of electrical wiring and HVAC (certification not required).

Other:

Regular attendance, punctuality and access to reliable transportation required.

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. There may be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, animal noises, odors and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air conditioned and heated office environment. Continuous sitting and use of a computer monitor and keyboard is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Must be able to be on their feet the majority of the day.
