Job Description

The Management Intern (MI) represents ASU and the Student Accessibility and Inclusive Learning Services and will work under the supervision of the Assistant Director to assist all accommodation service areas and will be cross-trained to support other department needs, including alternative format, alternative media, communication access, testing center operations, DART, and general operations of the office including payroll, human resources, and call center. The MI maintains a high level of integrity and professionalism in the department and throughout the ASU campus community.  

 

This is short-term position.

 

Please note that your position is also established through our department’s internal program and is based on a fiscal year that is currently scheduled to end on June 30, 2023. An additional one-year extension may be offered contingent upon annual review and approval. As a Management Intern with Educational Outreach and Student Services, you are required to be enrolled in a Graduate Program during the duration of your employment and continuation of your employment will be based on your at-will status as well as being enrolled in a Graduate Program.

 

Salary Range

$20.00 per hour

Essential Duties

·        Supports the activities of the accommodation services areas (Alternative Format Services, Communication Access/Alternative Media services including interpreting, CART, captioning, and transcripts, Alternative Testing and DART Services).

·        Supports student supervision, payroll processes, and human resources within the department.

·        Utilizes databases and spreadsheets to establish and track work flow through department.

·        Understands the Confidentiality Agreement, FERPA Policy, and Critical Incident Response guidelines for ASU campus; maintains the confidentiality of matters relating to staff, students, and with regard to the disability service in general.

·        Develops and maintains a strong working knowledge of the Student Accessibility and Inclusive Learning Services (SAILS) policies and procedures for alternative print, testing, interpreting, and closed-captioning accommodations.

·        Quickly and accurately locates and corrects errors in electronic documents.

·        Duties as otherwise assigned 

 

This position is primarily at the ASU Tempe location; however, incumbent may be required to travel to other ASU campus locations to perform work or represent the department.

 

This is a 20 hour per week position, including nights and weekends, with a consistent schedule Monday – Friday between 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM based on programming needs. The duration of employment for this position is based on the fiscal/academic year calendar. For this fiscal/academic year, employment dates are approximately July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024. An additional one year extension may be offered contingent upon an annual review. You are required to be enrolled in a Graduate Program during the duration of your employment and continuation of your employment will be based on your enrollment in a Graduate Program. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications

·        Demonstrated knowledge of optical character recognition software, word processing software, spreadsheets, and other general computer abilities.

·        Demonstrated knowledge of HR systems

·        Experience in taking direction and complete tasks independently on short deadlines

·        Customer service experience in an office environment

·        Working knowledge of computers: Word, Outlook, Excel and Internet

·        Evidence of effective communication skills

·        Evidence of enrollment in a Master’s degree program, in a closely related field of study

 

Working Environment

·        Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse (75%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (10%).

·        Assist with the supervision/coordination of student workers

·        Professionally represent department

·        Work collaboratively across various departments within the University as well as with diverse populations and groups

·        Use computers effectively including inputting, reviewing and retrieving information, extended periods of viewing screen, and using mouse and keyboard

·        Use critical thinking to make decisions and analyze data

·        Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds (15%).

·        Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

·        Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.

·        Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to perform essential duties
