Carpenter Company has an immediate opening for Material Handler 1st Shift in the Laminated Mattress department at our Temple TX manufacturing plant.

Material Handler - Laminated Mattress - Temple, TX - 1st Shift 7:00 am Start time with overtime as needed to complete the work for the day.

Works in a production/warehouse environment and is responsible for producing specific products(s) for external customers in an efficient, safe and production environment, meeting the demands established by a daily production schedule and customers specifications.

Position requires daily communication between operator, management, and all other employees in the department.

The position works in a normal manufacturing environment with exposure to temperature changes and loud noise. Overtime may be required each day to complete the work scheduled for the day. Major challenges involve the many varieties of mattress manufactured by this department

Skills/ Requirements

Other responsibilities include:

  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe work environment.
  • Must be able to read a tape measure.
  • Requires standing the entire shift of work.
  • Must learn the different types of mattresses produced and the configuration of each.
  • Must be able to read and completely understand the labeling process and read and write English
  • Must be able to shift and/or lift foam or mattresses that weigh between 35 to 90 lbs (with the help of another person as needed).
  • Must fully understand quality standards as prescribed by management.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
  • Picking up trash and discarded product.
  • Assists with monthly inventory, as required.


Must have high school diploma or GED

Must be able to accurately read and interpret a basic tape measure

Must be able to read and completely understand the labeling process and read/write English

Must be able to shift and/or lift foam or mattresses & boxes that weigh between 40 to 95 lbs.
