Position Description
This position is responsible for assuring smooth operation of the flow in a correctional facility medical clinic. Employees serve as primary contacts for patients and are responsible for preparing necessary paperwork before patient visits, receiving patients, and maintaining records. In addition, this position may be responsible for coordinating other clinic services, responding to requests for patient information, and maintaining related information for the department. Employees in this classification receive general supervision. Most work is performed according to established procedures; problems of an unusual nature are referred to supervisor. Work is performed in a medical clinic setting in a correctional facility and may require a high degree of contact with patients, facility staff, and other partners.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Ensure all provider and nursing orders are carried out appropriately, reminders are completed and new reminders are entered in the system. Complete provider and nurse orders from clinic appointments daily and note.
  • Ensure patients are checked in and checked out in a timely manner each day.
  • Ensure clinic notes are in the system daily.
  • Enter and complete reminders into EMR in response to Sick Calls received, nursing, and provider visits.
  • Answer telephone, directs calls, takes and/or relays messages. Answers routine questions.
  • Act as backup for other Correctional Business Assistants as requested.
  • Ensure all CCC patients are evaluated within policy time-frames. Create, monitor, and track all DOI reminders.
  • Ensure all components of CCC and Sick Call appointments are addressed by provider and nursing staff.
  • Ensure all labs are ordered two months prior to to CCC appointments.
  • Acquire extensive knowledge of CMHC Policies and Procedures to ensure that the clinic remains in compliance with laws outlined by Texas Legislature.

Computer Skills.
Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience.

Language Skills:
Ability to work closely with and assist other staff members.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to work under tight deadlines in often stressful situations.
Ability to solve minor issues and know to get clarification from supervisor.
