Carpenter Co has immediate opening for a 2nd shift Mechanic A at our Riverside, CA manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for assisting in troubleshooting, repairing, installing, or replacing mechanical equipment or mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical devices and components. Assist in fabrication of any mechanical devices or item requiring shop skills or tools as requested. This position works in a normal production/maintenance environment with exposure to temperature changes.

As the successful candidate, you will be expected to maintain constant communication with department managers and employees to coordinate mechanical and electrical repairs. Major challenges include working independently on very involved and complex jobs.

Your additional responsibilities as Mechanic A will include:

  1. Perform basic plumbing on machinery and/or equipment.
  2. Perform basic electrical repair on machinery and/or equipment.
  3. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
  4. Weld and use a cutting torch, plasma cutter, cut-off saw, and machine-shop equipment.
  5. Report conditions encountered that may affect the operation of the equipment.
  6. Train Class "B" Mechanics and/or mechanic helpers.
  7. Fabricate any mechanical assembly, install and make operational.
  8. Travel to other Carpenter Co. locations when needed.
  9. Assemble and disassemble equipment.
  10. Ready equipment for shipment to other locations.
  11. Read and interpret machine diagrams and plant layout drawings.
  12. Recognize potential mechanical problems, plan a solution for repair, and implement the plan.
  13. Maintain plant fire system.
  14. Serve on plant emergency response team.
  15. Ability to read and interpret a tape measure.

Skills and requirements

    • 2-3 years of specialty or technical training.
    • 3-5 years of combined Mechanic/Electrician experience required.
    • 3 - 5 years experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment..
    • Good communication and advanced math skills.
    • Must be forklift certified.
    • Ability to operate a genie boom, and scissor lift.
    • Ability to read and interpret a tape measure.
    • Must possess a variety of personally owned industrial/electrical hand tools.
    • Must be able to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays and call-in with little notice.
    • Must have basic computer skills with knowledge of data entry

        Pay depends on qualifications and experience. The Mechanic A hourly rate starts at $32.01 per hour.
