    Position Description: Mechanic/Driver
    Grade: $20.81
    Work Calendar: 12-month (260-262 Days)
    Hours per Day: 8

    I. General Description:
    1. Maintains and performs preventative maintenance and repairs to district fleet vehicles to ensure safe working condition. Must be capable and willing to drive any vehicle assigned.

    II. Qualifications:
    1. High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
    2. Must be 21 years of age, possess or acquire a valid AZ Commercial Driver License (CDL) class B with P and S endorsements and AZ Bus Driver Certificate.
    3. Must be capable and willing to drive any vehicle assigned.
    4. Exemplary driving record with no more than 8 points in the past 39 months or repeated violations in the past 10 years. Proof of 39 month driving record must be obtained from the Motor Vehicle Department annually.
    5. Must obtain and maintain CPR and first aid certificate.
    6. Must pass physical examination and annual drug screening as prescribed by AAC R17-9-102.
    7. Must be in good physical health and have the ability to stoop, climb, reach, push, pull, or lift weights in excess of 50 pounds.
    8. Experience driving school buses or heavy trucks preferred.
    9. Skill in assisting students with disabilities in loading, transferring, securing and unloading.
    10. Knowledge of Agua Fria and metro geographical area, roads, bus stops and school bus routes.
    11. Experience as a Journeyman Mechanic, ASE certified with knowledge in heavy equipment, buses and diesel engines preferred.
    12. Ability to perform minor and major repairs on vehicles.
    13. Ability to use hydraulics, power and hand tools, and electronic testing instruments.
    14. Establish and maintain appropriate interpersonal relations with staff.
    15. Ability to operate computer, MS office applications and maintenance records software.
    16. Must have and maintain a valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

    III. Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. Maintains punctual and regular attendance.
    2. Completes assigned work orders and review priorities.
    3. Performs preventative maintenance, inspects, diagnoses and repairs defects to all District fleet vehicles.
    4. Identifies, orders and secures parts for repairs.
    5. Performs troubleshooting and repairs of mechanical and electrical components, including video equipment.
    6. Advises dispatcher of vehicle availability and vehicles that are out of service.
    7. Maintains records of time, materials, parts required, as well as maintenance and repairs completed to each vehicle.
    8. Ensures vehicles meet safety standards and emissions requirements.
    9. Cleans and maintains district equipment, tools and the bus facility.
    10. Establishes and maintains appropriate interpersonal relations with staff.


    III. Duties and Responsibilities (continued):
    1. May be required to travel and work outside normal work hours.
    2. Responds and provides assistance and services for emergency repairs.
    3. Assists in transferring students to alternate vehicle when necessary.
    4. Arranges for transportation of disabled vehicles.
    5. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals and fumes.
    6. Attends and participates in department meetings and training.
    7. Observes all state and federal mandatory safety regulations and district policy.
    8. Reports all citations and accidents and complete required forms.
    9. Submits to random, periodic and post accident drug/alcohol testing.
    10. Must be capable and willing to drive any vehicle assigned.
    11. Maintains confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issues.
    12. Provides a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents and community.
    13. Performs responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner.
    14. Performs other related duties as assigned.
